They have been in neutral 2×4, and then expanded to 4×4, for over a week around the clock. This not an open 4×4 but a 2×4 and then a doorway out to another 2×4.
What I’ve learned actually, is this has little to do with neutral vs non-neutral; it just happened that way because my neutral spaces are small. When NewBoyBun thinks he can run, he runs…[Read more]

BlackSunlight replied to the topic Wholesale Websites? in the forum HABITATS AND TOYS 8 months, 1 week ago
There are wholesalers that sell parts for toy-making on Etsy, those are the only wholesalers I know about though! I can send you the name of the shop if you’d like? They make toys as well, if I’m thinking of the right Etsy shop.

I think Bam might be on to something. WBCs are a little high. I also notice creatinine is a little high. This is one measure of kidney function. I would suggest exploring this further. Yes, GI stasis can cause elevated numbers on blood tests. But the gas and stasis episodes could also be a secondary symptom of something else.

Bam replied to the topic Long-term gas issue suggestions in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 8 months, 2 weeks ago
As it says in the vet statement, it could perhaps be about pain from the kidney/urinary tract. Pain anywhere in the body of a rabbit can become apparent as GI trouble. It doesnt take a lot, gas will form if the gut slows, the bun gets gas pain and will often lose its appetite when the gas builds up. Kidney stones can be extremely painful for…[Read more]

Hi, everyone! I’m a shy person online, so I struggle to reply to comments, but your feedback has been so incredibly valuable to Leila and I in the past. I’m hoping one of you may have some advice for me again!
Leila (code name The Goose) recently turned 4-and-a-half. She’s an English Spot with no history of medical problems besides hock callouses…[Read more]

LBJ10 replied to the topic Do young rabbits need bloodwork before neuter? in the forum HOUSE RABBIT Q & A 8 months, 2 weeks ago
This is pretty normal. The risk is much lower in young rabbits, especially males being neutered. However, if you are worried, then I’m sure you can request it.

Where I am, bloodwork before a neuter is not done routinely on young healthy male buns. You could probably request bloodwork if you’re very worried.

My rabbit is 9 months old and the vet I was planning on getting him neutered at said that they don’t do bloodwork before neuters, is this normal? Every time any of my pets have gone under anesthesia they’ve gotten blood work done to make sure everything looks good before putting them under. I’m super anxious about the whole thing so I wanna make…[Read more]

Sometimes they are just out of it for the entire day. I’m glad she is doing better now.

Her ears were nice and warm last night. She didn’t eat anything but she was so tired so I just let her sleep it off on my bed. I left some critical care next to her water and it was gone this morning so she ate it sometime last night. She is definitely still sleepy but she’s coming to me when I call her now. She ate some hay and drank a bit of wat…[Read more]

How is she doing now? For some buns it can take more than a day to return to normal. The most important things are that she keeps warm and eats something. Anesthesia lowers the body temp and a low body temp is dangerous. You can warm her up in a very safe way by sitting her on your lap with a light blanket on her, (or even let her sit under your…[Read more]

She’s soooo tired. Barely reactive. Her ears still move and all that but I’ve never seen her this tired. Is that normal? I know she’s gonna be in pain and the vet sent me home with some pain meds. How long does it usually take them to get back to normal?

I’m glad to hear she is done and waking up! Hopefully she will be good for a while. Some bunnies just need it done once and then they are back on track. Others have recurring issues. I agree with Bam that the best way to keep the teeth worn down is to make sure your bunny eats lots of hay.

Thank you! She just got done with the procedure as I am typing this. She is starting to wake up and hopefully will have an easy recovery. I hope she eats her critical care on her own, she usually loves it to an extreme point so hopefully that encourages her.
(Sorry, I didn’t know it wasn’t allowed 🫣)

@Bam thank you so much for the advice and all of the info! I will ask on Friday about how we can get an X-ray done.
I’m not sure if it’s the painkillers but she seems pretty ok today, besides lying in her litter box instead of where she usually lies. I’m hoping this is also an indication of a UTI or something and she feels like she needs to wee m…[Read more]

Ngl, this brings back rather traumatic memories for me.
My advice is get x-rays of the lower abdomen and the lungs. This lump isn’t huge. It could be growing fast though, in which case it could be some sort of abscess (walled-off soft tissue cavity filled with pus) or a bad tumor. A tumor can be rock-hard bc of calcium deposits (calcification).…[Read more]

Dental problems are common in rabbits, and you are right that they should be dealt with asap, before they develop into really bad problems. A dental burr to remove spurs is usually a quick affair, the bun isn’t under for a long time.
4 years is not old, but rather a typical age when dental problems start to occur. Some vets prefer to do bloodwork…[Read more]
