Sorry it took me so long. I’ve been in and out all day. Yucca is a name of a plant species. It does not name ONE plant. The yucca chew we sell IS SAFE! I, for the life of me, can’t remember the name of the type of yucca plant it comes from. The chew is not part of the foliage that can can sometimes cause digestive upset if eaten fresh, and if you have a live decorative yucca plant in your home, you need to keep it out of your pets reach. Originally, before selling them, I had heard about the “toxicity” of yucca, but after checking with my vet, researching and talking to the distributor, I have found that “toxicity” to just be a generalization and blanket warning that shouldn’t be there as it does cause this same kind of confusion. If you have it in your home as live plant, then you need to be careful, but the dried yucca chew toys are safe. I have my notebook of specific facts about yucca that will help you feel better about the the dried yucca chews that are sold for bunnies. (I’m not at home right now, but when i get there, I will post my info about yucca.)
Joey, you were asking how it is good for rabbits. Some rabbits have a harder time with hard woods, especially those with teeth problems, like my Rucy. The dried yucca wood is softer which attracts healthy chewing for bunnies. Now some bunnies don’t like yucca, some do, so that is why I really liked the yucca wheelie because it offers both the dried apple stick and the yucca chew together.
I’ll be back to update about Yucca facts when I get back to the house.
