Yet another bunny poop question

Okay, so yesterday morning we took my bunny to the vet. She gave him a check up and said he was “A+”. Since recovering from stasis, Linus has been eating and drinking so much better than ever before, and of course pooping! 

On and off his poop has been sorta smelly but I think that’s large in part due to marking. He doesn’t spray(knock on wood!) but has started to go in one spot in the kitchen lately. Those poops are particularly stinky. 

Since we got home from the vet, on and off since last night his stool has been weird. Going a lot, but occasional large, egg shaped poop, and either a squishier poop or an unformed cecotrope. Couldn’t tell. That only happened twice and I think when he was sleeping. Just now when he went in the kitchen he dropped very odd looking stool. A few normal, but most were oversized or very dark and small/misshapen. That was something I hadn’t seen since he’d first gotten home from the animal ER. However he’s acting great; binkying, zooming around, and being very affectionate. Also he’s still eating and drinking a lot.

I’ve had him on Blue Seal Bunny 16 pellets since his breeder started giving them to him, and after reading some stuff on here within the past week have been slowly mixing in Oxbow adult rabbit pellets. I’m not sure whether it’s the pellets or if it could be leftover stress from the vet. …Just hopefully not illness. Any suggestions? Also, I have read over that “guide to bunny poop” many times.

A bunny that has been through stasis will need a bit of time before his poop is back to normal. It can take a month. As long as there is poop and it’s not pepper-corn size (that would mean gut slowdown/eating too little fiber), I’d just keep going. That he is binkying and zooming means he’s feeling great. Really happy for you that he passed his vet check with flying colors! Stasis is scary.

You are right in thinking that the stinky poop is territorial marking-poop. They are often slightly bigger than normal, and shiny. It’s the shiny oil on them that stinks. That’s normal, if not particularly pleasant for the human.

Thank you so much!! Ever since I got him(May 2014) I have watched him practically 24/7 and know him like the back of my hand. I’m also a worrier by nature so the fact that a rabbit’s health can deteriorate so quickly freaks me out. However the worrying is good to some extent because the rabbit doc at the animal ER said I caught his bloat early.

Thanks so much; I am too! Those four days were like the scariest of my life so far. And I’m only 19.

Poor guy was so stressed out to go back, though.

I think he thought I was going to leave him there for a few days again. That’s what unfortunately had to happen when he had stasis because he’s my first rabbit and I’ve never had to force feed or administer medicines to him before and he was giving me major attitude. I was mentally prepared to do it but he just fought so much that I knew he wasn’t getting the proper amount of Critical Care and he ran and hid from me big time. At the vet I knew at least he was on his way to recovery.

Okay, cool! Thank you. He needs to be neutered(way overdue) but I want to give him a few more weeks at minimum to send him back to the vet because they require an overnight stay to watch them. That’s good of them to do, in my opinion, and would both reduce and heighten my stress in different areas, but I would feel awful taking him RIGHT back after the last appt.
