Yesterday News Rabbit Litter or different kind of litter?

I’m using Yesterday News Rabbit Litter. I noticed a lot of rabbit owners do not use Yesterday News rabbit litters.

Yesterday News website mentioned that it’s ok for rabbit to eat rabbit litters and will not affect rabbit’s healths. I’m happy with Yesterday News because I noticed my rabbit was eating beddings especially wood shaving and carefresh. I decided not to use any beddings for him. I got litter pan and Yesterday News litter for him. He rarely eat litters so it should be ok.

 

What kind of litters you use and why?

I love Yesterday’s News Rabbit Litter. It’s clean and easy to pour and dump. Remy took to it really naturally and seems to like peeing on it : D

Yes, this is fine to use.

I use a litter called Lone Star Bedding which is a wood pellet – I like it because it is cheap and it is good at controlling odors.

I’ve used Yesterday’s News before as well…it’s just more expensive than the Lone Star Bedding.

For anyone in the UK, I recommend using Morrisons own brand recycled paper cat litter, it’s much cheaper than Yesterdays News and our bunnies have been eating it for ages with no adverse affects.

LizzieKnittyBun — Of course, it is too easy for me to pour litter into litter pan and dump poop out of litter pan I didn’t smell anything from litter pan anymore

Sarita — Oh, I never heard of Lone Star Bedding before. I don’t think anyone sell it here in New York. I wish somewhere in my local sell cheaper litter.

Blackavar3 — Hmmm, thanks for sharing. I read somewhere that UK is kinda dangerous for rabbits to live because of VHD and another kind of virus from bugs. Is that true?

haha! Well, I always leave a few poops in there to remind him, so I don’t always dump it all. It’s easy to scoop, etc. Much easier than shavings and things.

Hi Taurus,

Not really, VHD and myxamytosis (which I assume is the other virus you are referring to) can both be effectively vaccinated against, you just need annual boosters. Wild rabbits in the UK are so widespread that they live in cities in many areas and are considered vermin by many, although I think it brightens up the place to see a few bunnies running around your local park!

Wow I didn’t know about wild rabbits are widespread in cities. My vet told me it isn’t necessary to get VHD and myxamytosis shots if you live in USA.

taurus, i would recommend the generic form of yesterday’s news if the price bothers you.
i know at petsmart, it’s in the cat litter section called “exquisicat”- its just pelleted paper litter.

also, instead of buying the rabbit yesterday’s news, get the cat yesterday’s news. its the exact same thing, but about 5 dollars cheaper. the generic is about 5 dollars cheaper than the brand name.

 

but my buns love yesterdays news/exquisicat. plus, my vet recommended it.

I find that the pelleted pine litter controls odor better then Yesterday’s News, that’s really the only reason I don’t use it.

 

Definitely get the cat stuff though..it’s the same stuff just cheaper.    Also, I noticed that at Petco they have their own brand too which is cheaper.

If you saying cat stuff is same stuff as rabbit litter but.. is it safe for rabbit to eat cat litter?

Hmm, I checked Petsmart.com. They sell Yesterday News Cat litter 30lbs for 17 dollars.

I hope it is safe for rabbits to chew on these litter pellets.

I use Yesterday’s News, but recently I started buying the unscented kind for cats because I can get a much bigger bag for less money. My bun doesn’t have any interest in chewing on his litter pellets, so I can’t help there, but I assume unless he’s ingesting large quantities that your bun should be fine.

As long as it’s Yesterday’s News cat litter or Feline Pine pelleted pine cat litter then it’s fine.  The cat litter that is not safe is the regular kind..the kind that’s clay and stuff.  Those are the ones you want to stay away from.  But Yesterday’s News Cat Litter is the same thing as Yesterday’s News Rabbit Litter..same exact stuff in those bags

 

Really though for a pelleted litter that’s a LOT cheaper try a feed store for their wood pellet litter..I just got a 30 lb bag for 5.99…that’s almost 1/3 of the price of that bag of Yesterday’s News from Petsmart!

Oh..

I guess Yesterday News company made a lot of money by selling expensive rabbit litter. I should know that I can get cat litter instead of rabbit litter.
There are no feed stores in my area.

That’s odd, I googled to see if there are several feed stores near my area. There was a store that sell wood pellets. I called them to see if they are selling wood pellets for my rabbit’s litter. They said these wood pellets are for bedding.
1 bag of 30lbs for 6.99. 3 or more bags it will be 6.89 per bag. 6 or more bags it will be 6.69 a bag.

So I’m wondering if bedding is good idea for litter, too? Sorry if this is stupid question because I don’t see what’s the different between wood pellets bedding and wood pellet litter. In my point of view, bedding should be soft for any small animals to walk on and I kinda find this uncomfortable for rabbits or any small animals walk around with pellets under their feet.

I was really happy to get Yesterday’s News for Sammy – and then the little bugger tossed it out of her box!

It is excellent litter for bunnies, and yes, the unscented cat bag can be used instead of the more expensive bag for bunnies.

Sammy also rejected CareFresh, and didn’t stop making a mess until I switched to Feline Pine. I couldn’t tell you why at all. However, I learned here that the safest wood pellet is Aspen, so I switched to Aspen pellets and Herself accepted the change. That’s what I use now. (For all I know she might be OK with the Yesterday’s News now that she’s spayed. Fickle girl.)

The problem with Pine is it can give off some gasses that are harmful over time for a bunny to inhale. Well, let me say that the studies are still being done and it may or may not be, but since I could smell my pine pellets easily, I was nervous and made the switch to Aspen. Latest report is that aspen pellets and shavings do not give off a gas or fume, so are safe. The Pine shavings as well as cedar shavings are not processed the same way, and therefore can be more harmful. The Pine pellets should be marked Untreated with no Accelerants, and that’s what folks here who like them use.

We use Yesterday’s News (with a layer of timothy over it) and Bean seems to have no problems with it. He’s very good when it comes to using his litterbox.

I get Good Mews (100% paper pellets) at Safeway, 30lbs bag for $10.. sometimes it is on sale for $8.50.

I use Critter Litter for Rowan, probably not the cheapest stuff out there but that was what was recommended to me and he seems to like it- so that’s what we are sticking with for now!

i use that litter i tried another kind that was cheaper and i hated it i think this is the best at oder control and easy to change

I was using carefresh in Pebbles litter box with no problem but switched to yesterday’s news after reading the recommendations here. He hated it!!! I covered it with some fluffy stuff but no go! He started pooping on the floor all around the litter boxes! So I went back to carefresh and Pebbles is using all the litter boxes again. FYI I use my kids old receiving blankets… made of well washed flannel…..for the bottom of his cage and carefresh in his litter box. I have 3 blankets that I switch for changing his cage and getting washed.
