I recently took over the care of my sister’s Netherland Dwarf. I think he’s currently 4-5 years old. One thing I’ve noticed about him is that he does not molt like my Holland Lop does, but seems to shed constantly. There are spots along his back that come out in clumps every few days similar to molting, but like I said, they reappear every few days after brushing. My first thought was to change his diet. I’m slowly transitioning him from the generic pet store food to all natural Sherwood pellets, which helped my bun tremendously with some digestive problems (but he’s always had a healthy coat, so not sure if it will help that). If that doesn’t work, does anyone have experience with this before? I always thought that rabbits only molted twice a year, not shed continuously. If I don’t brush him every few days, the clumps will half-way fall out and start to get matted up, and then have to be cut out. I don’t mind brushing him several times a week of course, but if there’s something I can do to stop the continuous shedding (and hair blockages are a worry), I’d like to try it.
