Well we’re back home from the vets and I have a bag full of goodies.  Well Gracie probably wouldn’t say “goodies” since it’s all meds.

She probably peed on herself last night because she didn’t look as good as before when I bathed her.  So I think they might have shaved some of the mats off and also gave her a nice butt bath.  She’s still cleaning herself now but is keeping toasty by the heat register.

The Dr. wanted to try a few more things to help her (she’ll never be fully better but we can make her more comfortable).  She also has urine scald and her skin is infected a bit.  So this is what she’s on starting today:

        .25 of Metacam every day
.03 of Tramadol twice a day rotating ears that it is rubbed into (with gloves because you don’t want it on your hand)
Silvadene rubbed on her skin by her legs for the urine scald twice a day (along with on her ears sometimes because the tramadol dries them out)
.5ml of Orbax once a day, an antibiotic for her infected skin along with if she has an infection of her bladder (he couldn’t get any urine from her to see if there’s any crystals)
1 gram of Benebac once a day in her mouth or on her food; he explained to me that it goes along with the antibiotic and it’s kind of like Activia for animals.

So far she’s had the Metacam and Tramadol right now.  She’s still wet to put any Silvadene on.  He said if she gets any diaherra to stop with all her meds and call him.  I have to call him in 5 days to let him know how she’s doing.  He also cleaned her ears out and showed me I could do it myself as long as I don’t push the wax in, to just scoop it out.  It was hard to see how he was doing it because she kept scratching her back leg on my hand while I was holding her to get to her ears.  I have to get some of those long q-tips because the ones I have probably aren’t as great to get the wax out.  But hopefully this all helps her.  It was $125 for all, which wasn’t too bad.  I’ve totalled up how much we’ve had to spend for her vet wise and it’s probably at $1200 now, and we’ve had her since Feb. 2009.   I wanna know who says bunnies aren’t expensive!

$125 isn’t too bad at all. lol I’m hoping this works for her!

What is the tramadol? Because I know for humans, it’s a pain reliever. To me, it’s weird that they are having you put it in her ears. Or maybe it’s not the human tramadol. lol

Tramadol (brand name Ultram) is a pain medication that can be used with an NSAID (like Metacam) or without an NSAID as they work differently.  I think Tramadol is more pain relief related and Metacam is anti-inflammatory which helps with pain.  The 2 drugs can compliment each other nicely in a pain mangament program.

Tramadol is a pain reliever and suppose to help with her arthritis (I think, he was throwing so much at me, I’m glad my husband was there to hear everything haha!) She had it before for only 10 days and he asked if it helped, I think it did, it’s so hard to tell with rabbits. So he gave me some more. It works through the skin, that’s why I have to wear gloves because he said my finger might get a bit numb if I put it on my skin.
Yeah $125 isn’t to bad, but my Care Credit card is at $288, so it’ll go up a bit now. Good thing I have 6 months no interest for everything I get done….I should see what my limit is haha! We also just got a call from the car shop and it’s $550 to fix the one car, it’s just not a good day for money for us haha!

Yup that’s right Katnip, the Metacam is suppose to help her inflammation from her E. Cuniculli and the Tramadol is suppose to help with her arthritis. The Metacam has seem to work nicely, she doesn’t drag her legs when she gets up from a nap but they still can’t quite keep up at first…but it’s an improvement.

I had to force feed her the antibiotics :/ And as for the gel stuff she wouldn’t eat it alone so I put it on a piece of lettuce and she ate it. Her legs look a bit red and they did shave her. The urine burned off some of her fur anyways. I felt so bad when I looked at her
I’ll keep you all updated how she is.
