        Heya all

I’m kinda at a loss for what to give my parents for xmas. If they want something they go out and buy it, and my only idea was a blue ray player and my dad is getting that for my mom….

So my idea was to make one of those gift baskets with wine in it and chocolates and crackers, cheeses, etc etc.

I’m going to buy the basket or tin base at the craft store, but my question is….

How the heck do you stick it all together so it looks amazing like they do in the magazines?? I want to get all my items and trader joes because they have decent wine, and lots of cool little food items to put in it …..do I just use a ton of masking tape??? lol.

Has anyone here ever made one? Tips?

The next bummer will be where to hide it…now that there are baby tortises in the guest room my mom goes in there multiple times a day, and I couldn’t put it under the tree …the dogs would get into it. I guess I’ll see if my brother can hide it in his closet.

little cardboard boxes, and tissue paper. use the boxes to display each item nicer, at various heights. tissue paper to make it look purdy. Clear plastic around it to hold it together. lol.

I would go online and search Christmas baskets and just order one already put together. lol

One thing I’ve noticed is that a lot of the little items are held together with cellophane – that keeps them in the same position and they don’t fall out. You could probably tape them together a bit and use some cellophane (colored would be pretty too!) then tape it on the bottom. Then buy a lot of filler, something like that fake grass used for Easter baskets, but obviously not Easter colored.

Those are the only ideas I have! Have you done a google search on how to put one together? There might be instructions out there.

If you get some loose chocolates or candies, you can use those as filler between the items. I do that a lot when I make those kinds of things. Boxed chocolates are great but I think when someone sees a giant lump of loose chocolate, its like opening a treasure chest. Idk what your price range is, but I think Lindor truffles are the best, plus they come in a variety (milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, mint etc)
I agree with Monkeybun, using those little cardboard gift boxes would add a lot! Especially if you are trying to hide it, You could put each item in a box and then put the boxes in the basket… or just use them to set things on inside the basket. Tissue paper is a good idea too.
I would go to youtube and watch a few videos for some ideas though.

Thanks for the ideas….I am concerned that I am going to get ticked off halfway through and just start duck taping everything together…..lol

I know you can buy shrink wrap for baskets. Hobby Lobby has them for baskets. I think you use a blow dryer to shrink the wrap up.

If you do get frustrated with making your own, “Harry & David” has wonderful goodies, albeit a bit pricey.
I think it’s a lovely idea though. Now we have two dogs in house again, I understand your worries about yours getting into the choccies. Have you got a suitcase or something you can hide the finished product in?

I’ve made gift baskets before. I just took all the stuff, arranged it nicely in the basket, filled it with paper shreds (you can get different colours at a craft store), then took a sheet of that plastic basket wrap stuff (sorry, not sure the exact name, again though, craft stores sell it), put it underneath the basket and gather it all at the top, secure with a twist tie and then top with a gorgeous ribbon. You can buy really pretty pre-made bows at craft stores. Stick a gift tag on and voila.
