I have a Wry Neck Pointed White Holland.  She often gets debris in her eye and of course gets an infection.  I have used wood pellets and wood shavings as bedding.  I am wondering

        1. What kind of other bedding should I use that wouldn’t have things that would get into her eye

        and

        2.  Does anyone know of a type of eye mask (like the fly masks horses use) to help protect my baby from any debris that may be kicked up?

Just seems like  I am always fighting infections with her. I am sure her eyes don’t feel really good.  I just want her happy, and healthy.

        Thank you,

        Tripletmumm

Are you talking about bedding used throughout the cage, or in the litter box? If it’s throughout the cage you could try using fleece blankets. In the litter tray you could try using a pan that has a grate for poop and pee to fall through and only use litter under the grate, not on top of it.

Eye troubles and infections are common in rabbits with a held tilt, debris getting into it, getting bumped on things, simply the orientation being wrong and the eye not draining properly etc.

I agree. Fleece would be the way to go. For the litter box, either a screen or maybe something soft like carefresh?

Ditto on Azarene and LBJ10. Honestly if I ever got to that point with my EC bunny, I would continue using the wood pellets (great for odor control), and put vet fleece bedding on top of the pellets – in the litter box. I have fleece in my bunny room, and the rabbits pee and poop on it as if it were a litter box. The pee drains through and settles into the puppy pee pad. I change out the pee pads and sweep up the poop daily, and wash the fleece every second day. I only have 1 grate out of 4 litter boxes, because they typically don’t have large enough holes for the poop to fall through, and since I put hay on top of the grate or comfort, they do get messy. It is more for me to clean. The only grate I still use is in the “jumbo” (really small in my opinion) corner rabbit litter box – because it sits a distance off the poop/bedding, and the grate is large enough for the poops to fall through, so it stays relatively clean. This pair of rabbits have 4 litter boxes, and one of them also pees all over the room on the pee pads, so changing the fleece every second day works out just fine. If I only had 1 litter box – I’d change the fleece every day. Just other ideas.
