So I noticed today and yesterday I looked over and on at least once occasion on both days my rabbit was making nibbling motions with her mouth when she didn’t have food in her bowl yet because I had just woken up, well I’ve tried to look up what this is and the only answer I’ve seemed to find is that it might be teeth grinding?

Well today since I noticed it again well I gave her the food I feed her and she stopped doing it after she ate and then I have her some more hay as well and when she finally came over to the hay it seemed like she did it a little bit again but then stopped after eating some hay.

But hang on theres more, she seemed to be not as active as she always has been although she did have a burst of energy at one point, but she seems to have been laying down more, shes eating and drinking just fine it seems, but im concerned cause of potential teeth grinding and the fact she isn’t as active as she has always been.

My rabbit is around 5-6 years old and shes a netherland dwarf.

She was much more active two days ago. Is she just maybe bored or something?

I’m asking on here cause I don’t really have anyone else I can ask about this and I tend to freak out easily if I think somethings wrong.

I’m also asking because I don’t know what to do if she needs to see the vet cause my dad is the only one who makes money right now and he doesn’t like spending the costly amount of money it takes for a vet visit. So if I do need to have her checked out I’d appreciate if anyone had resources for getting her seen.

If she were tooth grinding with pain, you’d hear it. Plus she’s not have eaten her food and hay. Tooth grinding that’s not choppy and loud generally means the bun is feeling good. You can sometimes feel that type of tooth grinding if you place a finger on the bun’s head.

You’ll have to keep an eye on her activity level, but that she had an energy burst is very good, that she’s eating and drinking is of course good too. If it’s hot where you are it’s normal for a rabbit to be less active. You can help her by giving her frozen water bottles (don’t fill them all the way up or they’ll burst). Many buns like to snuggle up to a cold bottle when it’s warm.

I think your rabbit is fine. My rabbit does that sometimes as well, seemingly randomly chewing nothing. But when I get close to her it’s just like purring. Try to listen to her to see if it sounds soft. As far as the active thing, there might be a possibility she is just getting older. Otherwise, though, I agree with bam. It might just be the hot weather.
