Hi there everyone,
My 15 week old house rabbit is usually very active and devours his hay and pellets within minutes everyday. Except yesterday morning, I went to let him out and change his water before work and he jut sat/lied there. This is unusual as usually he jumps out straight away. I gave him a stroke and thought for definate that enticing him with some food would work but he just turned away! I tried various hay/dandelion/veg and treats and he didn’t want to know
. Unfortunately it was one of the very rare days where both my husband and I were at work the same day. So I placed him on the sofa on a heat pad (his ears were cold) left his cage open with food/water/hay and hoped for the best.
When I returned a few hours later, he was walking and hoping more but still not eating, pooing or weeing. I did a quick google search and from the noises (grumbling) coming from his belly I thought it was something to do with this, by this time it was about 8 o clock at night though. So I stayed up with him all night – rubbing his belly (this seemed to let gas out), keeping him warm, forcing him to drink and eventually he ate! He also pooed and urinated, but the poo was very runny and jelly like. Nevertheless, the more food and drink I was giving him the better he became so I continued. I fell to sleep with him for a couple of hours and woke up with him jumping on me
. I got up and he seemed very active, ate more food, drank more drink and eventually even had some hay. As a result he starting pooing more, and even though not as normal, they are getting more solid and round. His energy now seems back up to par aswell.
My question is though – should I still take him to the vets today? I was certain I would have to yesterday but now he seems much better. His jelly like poos yesterday have worried me though. Or is he OK now? Has anyone had a similar experience? He is our first indoor bun, you think you know alot but then when there ill it could be a number of things!
Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated. I have the day off work today so can stay with him.
Thanks!
