(Unsure if this is the right forums)

Hi, my name is Taylor and I’m new to the forums.

I’m posting this to ask a question about my little bunny Fawn.

So last week Fauna got really sick and wasn’t eating. She had discharge coming from her eyes and nose and was sneezing uncontrollably. She wouldn’t eat and was hardly drinking or going to the bathroom. She was being abnormally lethargic and she’d lost significant weight.
So naturally I took her to the vet.
Well, my vet may not be the most rabbit savvy, but he’s good enough in an emergency.

So we took her in, she was running a slight fever and when he weighed her the scale said she weighed 5.75lbs. (Which worried me cuz on a normal day she weighs 7or8. Yeah, she’s slightly overweight normally. I spoil her to much)

The vet said she had a respiratory infection and gave her an injection of Baytril and prescribed her some meds. (She got prescribed 1cc of Orbax 1X a day for 10 days. He also gave her some drops, she gets 1 in each eye and 1 in her nose 3X a day for a week.)
He told me she should start eating and drinking again in a few days.

        So skip ahead to today.
Fawn still is hardly drinking and won’t eat anything but pineapple. (She loves pineapple. Also, I’ve been mixing pedialite in her water also, I was hoping she’d love the sweetness and drink) She’s lost some more weight and I’m getting worried. Tried to force feed her and she wouldn’t have any of it. (She bit me and drew blood in protest ) and she keeps having the fits where she breathes heavy and rapidly and I freak out thinking she’s having a heart attack. (Which she’s not.)

Called the vet back, he said just wait for her meds to take full effect. So I have been.

Maybe I’m just over-reacting a little bit, but I’m just so worried about my baby girl.

So here’s me hoping that anyone has any ideas for getting her to eat/drink again.

Any suggestions will be well appreciated.

Will she eat veggies or hay?

No on the hay. But I got her to eat some carrot tops and kale just a little bit ago.

You’ve got to get some food in, call your vet and see if they sell critical care for herbivores. It’s a dry mix that you mix up with water and syringe feed. If they don’t, or they aren’t open now, you can crush up pellets very fine and mix with water or pedialyte and you will syringe feed the mixture. Get as much down as you can as many times a day as you can. It will be hard and messy business but you must keep her stomach moving.

Please keep us posted on her progress; and welcome to the forum!

                  Kk thanks for the info.

Its 9:00 at night where I live right now so I’ll have to get a hold of the vet in the morning and see if they have any.

She’s resting right now so I’m gonna leave her alone till morning. (or at least till she gets her drops in an hour)

If I can’t get any critical care tomorrow I’ll do the mix with her food.

                  Thanks again.

Btw in a slightly unrelated topic.
Fawn has this raw spot in her ear and its bleeding and appears to be getting worse.

What can I clean it out with. Cuz I don’t want it to get infected. (Lol can it even get infected while she’s on an antibiotic?)

                    Just a question.

                      *Small Update*

Ok so Fawn still won’t eat and I don’t think she’s drinking much.

But this morning I went to clean her cage out, and for the first time in almost a week and a half, her feces were normal. And there were A LOT.

Still worried cuz she isn’t eating, but at least this is a good sign that her systems are starting to work normal again.

I’m hoping she’ll be feeling empty and start eating again soon.
