Alot of BB people mention they use wood stove pellets, Do the absorb the pee well? can you scoop it like kitty litter? I use hay, its free we have horses and cattle so hay is plentifull  lol but it dosent absorb the pee well so there is a slight odor from it. I clean his liter pan ever day sometimes 2x a day  but I would like to try the pellets. Do your buns try and eat them? Where do you find them at? I live in a small town and all I have is walmart and k-mart do they sell it there? what isle? lol Sorry for the ton of questions! lol

They are great at absorbing pee so you don’t have to even use much litter at all. I am pretty sure walmart doesn’t sell them and I doubt k-mart would, I know stores like home depot sell them though. If you go some were that sold them you could stock up on it so you wouldn’t have to drive all that way all the time. You can also get horse stall bedding which is pretty much the same thing but made for horses ( same price too). you can find them at feed stores or tractors supply.

You could probably find feline pine (non clumping kind) at walmart or kmart. It’s also a pelleted wood. And yes, you can scoop out most of the soiled area and mix the remainder around with the rest of the pellets.
Take a look at the end of this recent thread. Mr Bill posted pics of feline pine and his method of sifting it.

Wood Stove Pellets are great and cheap. And are scoopable.

I’ve used carefresh and now I use WSP (due to cost) and the only time that I smell something is when I am dumping the litter into the trash bag.

PLUS, you can just put a thin amount of WSP that covers the bottom.. and you are set.

I bought a 40 lb bag for 5 dollars. I need to get a few more bags.. it is only available during the cold months.

Do you have any type of building supply stores like Lowes or Homedepot or anyplace that would sell woodstoves? They would sell the pellets for the stoves. If not, do you have any feedstores nearby? They could sell pelleted horse bedding that is probably 6$ for 40lbs bags, mine just also started selling woodstove pellets for 5$ per 40lbs bags. As long as it says all natural, meaning no accelerants or any chemicals, you are good.

You could also do a google search of woodstove pellets, with your city or zipcode and see what comes up as well.

I’ve been using newspaper and hay too for awhile but the woodstove pellets give me another day of not having to clean the boxes…sometimes even 2-3 days if I’m lucky….I keep them all in my bedroom though so you know it’s important for me to keep them really clean.

Downstairs in the family room/bunny room the only source of heat is our pellet stove, so this time of year naturally we have plenty of pellets on hand.

I’ve been using Feline Pine ($20/40lb bag) and a bag lasts me 1 month. That’s with 4 buns and 7 litter pans (plus a 5th we just started fostering and his pan, too). I use a screen on the top of the pans to keep the poo separate from the pellets. It just makes it so easy to clean.

I’ve tried mixing in hardwood pellets with Feline Pine together and I didn’t have any luck at all. It’s easy to tell the 2 apart because F.P. is a light yellow in color and the hard wood is a grayish brown. When soiled the F.P. broke down in to sawdust and the hardwood pellets were still intact.

I was just reading some comments earlier about Feline Pine and how it’s the same thing as stall pellets which are used for livestock. The difference being stall pellets can be bought at a feed mill for around $6 for a 40lb bag. I was pretty excited to read that as I have to run to the feed mill this week anyhow to pick up corn (we feed the deer) and peanuts (whole; we put in the bird feeder for the woodpeckers).
