Will he get sick?

Here is the deal: we had workers come to my house today to repair my bathroom, and they were drilling, hammering, vacuuming, etc. Sebastian and Juliet were in the next room over, with my door shut. I could tell they were a little freaked, and I felt so bad, but I didn’t have any other place to put them at the time. I sat in their cage and comforted them. I gave each a carrot: Juliet ate part of it, Sebastian didn’t eat any. This sent me into a spiraling panic because a few months ago, Sebastian got stress induced GI Stasis. She is eating pellets, but he is sitting in his plastic castle. I am extremely worried. From his last bout of stasis, I had benebac paste and metoclopramide, which I still have half a bottle of. I was thinking about giving him an extremely small dose, but I wanted a doctors order for that. What should I do?

Here is what I did: I placed Juliet in the yard of the cage (they are connected) and I put Sebastian in the cage part with a litter box to see how much he poops. I tried the carrot test again, thankfully he ate it, but I am just making sure nothing is wrong. The rabbits can still see each other.

It sounds like a good move. As long as they can see and hear and smell each other, they can still comfort each other. Sometimes two bonded buns need to be separated, it just can’t be helped. You need to keep track of his poop and pee, and you can only do that when they’re separated.

You can give Benebac paste without consulting a vet first -it can’t be overdosed, any surplus just gets pooped out.

It sounds very promising that he took the carrot. Have you seen him eat any hay at all? Pellets?

I don’t know your bunny well, but I do know this: my bunnies do not always eat the treats I offer them. Sebastian may just not have been in the mood for it at the time and turned his nose up at it. I wouldn’t panic if he is eating pellets and/or hay and watch him for the next couple of hours to make sure he is still pooping. If his poop looks normal and he’s not doing anything unnatural, I wouldn’t worry. Again, my rabbits often turn down a lot of treats I offer them – raisins, carrots, bits of banana, strawberry etc. – merely because they’re not in the mood for it and then later eat it. Watch him for the next couple of hours and make sure he is acting naturally. If not take him to the vet immediately, but I don’t think it will come to that. And whatever you do, DON’T PANIC. Stay calm even if it does come to taking him to the vet, because if you are in a state of panic it will not help Sebastian stay calm.
