        Hello!

Recently I have been taking my buns out everyday for most of the day, and I have noticed that their personalities have changed. They are acting like there are no rules, and I am starting to feel like they have too much freedom

Muffin escaped from the pen yesterday, went into next door’s garden but made her way back home after a few minutes. I am now working on ways to secure the pen, but any tips? The pen is made of garden mesh wire, and is currently secured down with pegs.

When I was taking Munchie into the garden today, she jumped out of the box and into the grass. She luckily didn’t hurt herself, but I have now got a much more secure carrier.

As you can probably tell, they are beginning to get much more ‘wild’ personalities…or it may just be puberty! I am still trying to persuade my parents to get them spayed in a few months..any good (preferably detailed) reasons?

        Thanku Xx

I’ve said it before but the whole “too much freedom” is not a concept I understand. You can not give a rabbit too much freedom. They shouldn’t be confined to small areas.

As for their behaviour, well tbh digging/jumping out of pens is normal behavior for a bunny that doesn’t want to be confined. I don’t think they’re becoming ‘wild’

They absolutely need to be spayed or there is a very high risk of them developing cancer. Surely that is justification enough? Not to mention they won’t have to deal with false pregnancies and whatnot which can be very distressing for them.

You are lucky that Muffin returned. She could have run off, never to be seen again, or a predator could have gotten her. If the rabbits can escape from a pen, that also means that a predator can get into the pen. There are so many danger outdoors. Unless an enclosure is totally predator proof and escape proof, which means it has strong hardware cloth material on all sides, including underneath and above, it is not safe. I don’t know what garden mesh wire is. If it is anything like chicken wire, it is not strong enough.

Besides the fact that spaying will eliminate uterine cancer, and will do away with some behavioral issues, if you plan to keep these bunnies together, they should be spayed so that they can permanently bond, with no fighting and injuries occurring as a result of the fighting.
