I was so stupid.  I went to my local humane shelter website and thought, oh you know what, I am going to see if they have any bunnies up for adoption, just to see.  Thats where it all goes wrong… Ho-LY COW!  There are TONS of rabbits up for adoption and some have been there since, maybe, 4 months ago?!!  I feel so bad for those little guys.  I just want to take like 3 or 4 of them home, I have money to spare, $20 for each?  why not.  EEEKK!  They have mini rexes, mini lops, NZWs, shorthairs, english spots, satins, and a lionhead!  oh my goodness.  Normally, they usually have but 3 rabbits, dont understand the increase amount of bunnies, but oh do I want them all!!!  Feels like Pokemon back in elementary school… Gotta catch em all!

I need an increase paycheck for 2 bunnies.  this stinks.  one day. one day.

I cant be the only one who falls into that trap haha

It’s fun to look, but remember you will have to bond your neutered rabbit to the new neutered rabbit very carefully, if you plan on them meeting and living in the same space (it’s such a chore to have two cages to clean).  I just got through a bonding process which took a week for things to really turn around, and bonding is very stressful–especially on the humans, I think.  My two rabbits fought at first–now they seem to be friends–and I panicked, thinking I’d made a big mistake bringing home a new rabbit.

She seems pretty happy just by herself. I dont think I could handle the fighting! Not to mention double the chewing. I think once I get a house then I will think about getting another bun, but it was just so sad seeing all those little guys. I am not sure how often and if they do get taken out of their cages. But nonetheless, it makes me want to always adopt seeing that!

Ah yes, this is how I ended up with my bunny Totoro. My original plan was to wait until Wilbur was spayed and recovered and then take her for bunny dates at the shelter to find her a friend. Well I frequently would look at the humane society’s website and one day I just had to adopt this one rabbit, talked myself out of it, and then ended up going ahead with it haha. You’re definitely not alone and there’s really no harm in looking! Sounds like you realize that now wouldn’t be the best time to adopt another one, but when you are able to then I would totally go ahead with bringing Tipsy to the humane society for bunny dates (it’s best to sort of let your bunny pick out the new one for a better chance that they will get along and bond).

That is a great idea Bunnyfriend, I had no idea that that was possible! How did Wilbur let you know?

Haha that’s the problem with what I did, they have not met each other yet, I adopted without having them go on a bunny date first. I took a big risk, there’s a chance they won’t get along at all, but I only adopted Totoro because I know I can keep them separate long term if things don’t work out. It was not a smart move on my part though, I probably should have waited until I could’ve had Wilbur pick out a new bunny. But yup! Shelters are more than happy to help find a new bunny that will fit into your home, and most of them do it for free. They will introduce your bunny to couple male bunnies (that have already been altered) and look for signs that they will get along, like no agression, grooming, ect.

hahaha oops!! Ehh everyone makes mistakes… Tipsy was definitely mine!
She seems really good with dogs. I have 3 frenchies and she did not mind them at all. Sometimes I dont think she really even cared about them… at one point she did play chase with one, only lasted a few second though but it was a big step! So I figured, if she can get along with dogs that quickly, maybe she might be ok with a bunny sooner or later? She is never territorial with me, and she is even at the hormonal stage. So I guess she may be a good candidate at some point in time.

I’ve got a single girl.. and I thought of getting a friend for her, but now is not the right time. Money is tough, transportation isn’t very good (dad’s car) so I’m going to put it off for a while.

I am not sure if Miss Diva will be happy with another rabbit in her domain.. she is.. quite the bossy bun.

LoveChaCha:  I just got Olive a friend and found out just how bossy she really is ;-).  Luckily, Simon, my young NZ White, is very laid back and has acquiesced to Her Highness.  They’re getting along just splendily now… but last week was a different story!  I’d love to see what Chacha would make of another bun, though!
