› FORUM › DIET & CARE › Who has a bunny first aid kit? What’s in it?
So I’m going to get together a bunny first aid kit
Critical care , tin of baby food , syringe – what else?
What’s in yours??
Saline, I have a box with single packs sterilesaline eye wash. Tweezers, sharp scissors, Manuka honey, Bernadine/iodine,
Ooo they are good ones , thanks
What’s the honey for? To flavour critical care or something?
No, it’s for wound care. Deep wounds. Hopefully sth most of us will never have to deal with.
Will have to google , I’ve never heard of using honey – thanks for the insight!
I need to do that myself. From my reading here and elsewhere I’ll need Critical Care, simethicone, a syringe (without needle) for feeding, gauze bandages, rabbit-suitable antiseptic (I presume that’s the iodine?), styptic pencil, tweezers and scissors, sterile/saline eye wash. What else?
Simethicone!
My first aid kit is whatever is left over from Wick’s long-term URI treatment. It has over a dozen syringes of various sizes (which is very helpful), simethicone, one needle&syringe, and the Rx copies of all his medications/rx pick-ups as a record, just in case it’s needed to re-call his past medical history. I also have a generic nasal spray that my vet said I could use on Wick if he didn’t stop sneezing, but I haven’t used it nor really plan to.
To add, I want to get the powder for quick-cutting nail healing, as well as a Critical Care pack.
I’d love to know a rabbit-safe, go-to “Vaseline” and “Bandaid” equivalent for if Wick ever gets a surface cut. Please let me know!

Simethicone, syringes, styptic powder, saline. I also keep a copy of their full medical records in a easy to locate spot in case someone other than me is caring for them.
What do you guys think of laxatone? One of my bunnies sometimes needs help passing her stool during her shed time.
Great topic OBM!!! I’m making my checklist now.

I wouldn’t give a laxative to a rabbit.
If you’re curious, I started a thread about this last summer (I think) with lots of pics of my kit. Can’t do a search now cus BB is not loading easily for me as is, but just in case you care to look. ![]()
Here’s a link to Q8’s First Aid Kit thread:

Awesome resource!
BunNoob, I’m even impressed with what I myself listed in that thread ![]()
I don’t have a specific one for bunnies. Or for any of my other pets. What I have is piles of stuff I have collected over the years which sort of counts!
Things I have that might be useful for rabbits includes a digital thermometer, various syringes, critical care, nail clippers, and probably some other things too. I would like to grab a can of purple (Cetrigen) spray. I have only ever used it on horses, but I have seen some vets use it on rabbits too, and it would also be fine for my other animals. It’s basically a purple spray (hence the name) that works as a bit of a wound cleaner and also repels insects, so the wound is left alone. A lot of animals don’t like the taste so they leave their wounds alone too – although nobody told Lily that bit! ![]()
Does anyone know what the UK equivalent/brand of simethicone is?
Simethicone is the chemical compound name. If you can’t find that just one in big letters on the bottle, you should be able to find it under the active ingredient list.
Baby simethicone gasdrops are sold as Infacol in the UK.
Thanks Bam. I knew it was an ingredient but then I got worried about all the other ingredients in things that contained it, so thought it was best to check.
It has orange flavor and sodium saccharine, but many of us use it for our buns. I bought a bottle when I was in the U.K. because the type we have here seems to taste terrible to buns. My Bam eagerly takes infacol on a slice of fruit.
Suggested simethicone doses are 1-2ml but that is for the 20mg/ml strength formulas. Infacol is 100mg/ml.
I have one!
I hear too many severe weather warnings (
) so I have it packed in a little bag inside a carrier right by the door. It has the following:
-banana baby food
-pear-spinach baby food
-critical care
-syringes
-hay cubes
-a bottle of water
-nail clippers
-a tin of pellets
-a blanket
-puppy pads
-a plastic bag
Once, recently, the rain and wind got so bad I took the buns, my emergency kit, and the buns emergency kit to the basement. I felt much better knowing that IF the weather were to get bad enough (to break windows, cause damage, etc.), I had my buns with me and everything we could all need for a couple days. Thankfully, all is well ![]()
A bunny bug-out bag!
Love the idea.
Regarding Infacol, the strenght I have is 40 mg/ml. Maybe the strenght varies between countries? The risk of overdosing by mistake is still low, though.
