Hey guys. Past 3 days I’ve noticed my Netherland dwarf female have white “chalk” in her pee (you can see white particles & when dried up theirs a white stain.) I’ve done my research on it & found out it’s probably a sludge because of excessive calcium in diet. Today, I’ve realised her pee is COMPLETELT WHITE. My bunny past week refused to eat her pellets as they were mixed so she was ONLY eating ‘oat seeds’. She rarely eats hay too. but she’s been rarely eating hay since 6 weeks old. So as soon as I found out that she was only eating oat seeds (assuming they have calcium in them) I got her new pellets that isn’t mixed and she’s occasionally eating it.

Her diet past 1-2 weeks consisted of me just introducing her to new fruits & veggies in very small portions so I was thinking this not being the reason why she had excessive calcium. She’s a house bunny so I let her out on the buffalo grass for 10 mins almost daily and she eats it during that time which I found wasn’t the issue.
The fruits I’ve given her in the past 2 weeks (no more than literally 1cm as a treat are: mango & watermelon. The vegetables that I’ve gave her recently are DARK CELERY (about only 6-8cm long which I think this might be the issue although my friend gives her buns WAY MORE.) and gave her a carrot about 4cm long. (I’ve given her other things but not ‘staple’ to her diet at the moment…

Can anyone see the issue with why she might be having a sludge bladder ? She drinks her water as well. And can someone suggest me veggies & fruits without calcium or rarely any ? I want to fix this problem as she seems like a happy bun without any problems despite the pee.! Thanks so much

Bladder sludge is more a thick dark yellow colour. Some white sediment is normal in rabbit urine and rabbits excrete what the body hasn’t taken up. You don’t want to restrict calcium. For vegetables, check out the diet section under the BUNNY INFO tab at top of page. It tells you which are high in oxalates which we do need to take care in how much they receive.

If your rabbit is not a hay eater, it’s possible she has some dental issues, so calcium would be very important in the diet. Has she ever had his teeth checked under sedation?
