I recently got a book called House Rabbit Handbook, and it says that 7 weeks old bunnies can try some veggies. But I’m a little worry to give Ty some veggies, even though he’s 9 weeks old, because most people say that you shouldn’t give your bunnies veggies until they are at lease 12 weeks old.

Should I give him some, or should I wait untill he’s 12 weeks old?

I’ve heard that unless the mother was eating veggies that 12 weeks is the ideal age to start small amounts of veggie.

Most people here go by the HRS recommendations and you can find lots of detailed info here:

Make sure to read the article and not just skip down to the list.

I’m one of the people who believe that starting veggies at 8 weeks is fine. Ideally, mama bun was eating veggies and the babies started munching little bits at about 4 weeks. But if not, when you bring your bun home, start sloooooooowly introducing the basic veggies. Romaine is a good one to start with. Just give one leaf a day for a week or two and watch to make sure there are no adverse reactions. After a couple weeks, add in another basic veggie (flat leaf parsley is a favorite in my house) and give a few sprigs of that per day, along with the one leaf of romaine.

Ok but I don’t know if Ty’s mom was eating veggies when Ty was younger, but when I picked Ty up from the breeder, she (the breeder) did say that I can give him a bit of lettuce. Maybe that means that she’ve been feeding Ty’s mom and his siblings veggies?

I would just start slowly in small amounts like Beka and the article says.

In reality, I don’t think it will hurt your bunny to start now or to wait two weeks. It’s really up to you and how your bunny reacts to them.

In the grand scheme of things, two weeks isn’t a big difference. If he’s going to have a bad reaction, it will happen now or in two weeks.

If he gets runny or mushy poop, stop feeding the new veggie and see if it fixes the issue. Wait a few days and try reintroducing in a smaller amount.
