It’s time once again for an update on what can go wrong when a bunny is loose – and mysteriously quiet – in the house.

Have you stopped watching PBS because the #2 on your remote is gone?

Did you switch to a cell phone, not because it’s the latest technology, but because your land line hasn’t had a dial tone in over 2 years?

Does your fashion sense include teeth marks?

Post some of your chewed items here. We want to know. We have tips. We have replacement parts. We do not condone, but we sympathise.

Hannah somehow chewed a cord that connects the wireless receiver to DH’s headphones for his video game stuff (very necessary so I can read in the same room while he’s playing!) She only managed to get behind the tv for 15 seconds and she chewed it. Luckily it was only $8 and shipped in one day from a local town. There were so many more expensive cords she could’ve chewed up!

Hannah’s also chewed up a wall that sticks out to separate the dining room from living room – there are teeth marks in the drywall. I covered it with no-chew stuff and she stopped, but then she jumped onto the recliner sitting right there so she could chew the wall higher up where I hadn’t applied no-chew.

The only thing Otto chews are magazines (he loves Wine Spectator) so I can’t leave those on the coffee table shelf anymore. He also chews on the box for his Teach ‘n’ Treat, but I figure it’s his toy however he wants to play with it.

            LOL
I got this image of your bunny swinging on a curtain cord like Tarzan, just popping in and out of view while you’re hanging in the recliner, on her way to a piece of wall she can’t reach. “Honey, what was that?” “What? I didn’t see anything.” “Something flew by me I think.” “Get the flyswatter. It’s summer.”

Hahahahaha. She’s like a ninja! She was up there so fast and had already put a ding in the wall before I could stop her.

                lol she’s a smart one

I started doing a scheduled game event 3 nights a week and my male decided he did NOT like being ignored, so he chewed my DSL line, effectively ending my gaming session. He normally doesn’t touch any wires.

All of the boyfriends socks he leaves in the floor have the heel chewed out of them (to which I told him to stop leaving them in the floor if he doesn’t like it )

Stephen King Dark Tower books are not safe on the bookshelf, the only book my male likes to eat.

My female has chewed the paint off a section of wall, to which I have now blocked off.

Many a phone # by the phone has been devoured because the paper left on the stand there is oh-so tasty. I usually end up with 2-3 digits left…

Haha. I can see him look at all of the wires and thinking “Which one of these is the interwebz? Oh, clearly this one!”

No wires have been chewed. Wooly did, however, rip a hole in my school bag. Both rabbits have been meticulously picking away at the drywall around the heat vent in their room. I still need to find some NIC panels that don’t have the huge holes (I have been all over town looking).

Did you try Bed Bath and Beyond? I get mine from there and they seem to only carry the small size.

Yes, I did. The holes were big enough for Wooly to fit his head through. I wouldn’t want him to get his head stuck or something.

So far mine are actually pretty good. It will be interesting to see how much naughtier they end up being when I move to a completely carpeted apartment in a couple weeks. Right now the fear of the lava (wood floors) keeps them pretty confined to an area rug. However, I will be losing a bit of my security deposit because Spencer nibbled one wall corner. It’s just a solid nibble all the way from the base board to about five inches up the wall. Naturally he chose to nibble on the one wall that’s a weird green color, so I can’t hide it. Obviously white paint is less yummy. I call Kate my little book worm because she likes to eat books. She selects only my most expensive anthologies and large, important scholarly works. Never my cheap paperback novels, the brat. Although she will chin and then nibble any book while I am reading it. All of the books that I read for my final term paper have little nibbles on the binding and lots of missing page corners. It’s just so cute and funny and she usually ignores me, so it’s hard to tell her ‘no’ when she’s actually hanging out with me, even if she’s being a destructive little book worm. Lol, I’m such a sucker. I’ve never had a problem with them eating wires… though Kate is sometimes amused by the big plastic wire coverings and nibbles them.

apperently my Nova bun HATES the ‘livestrong’ type bracelets. he was sleeping on the end of my bed with me last night and all of a sudden he has my wrist in both front paws and his mouth attached to the bracelet pulling as hard as he could. didnt scare me any but now my cancer awareness bracelet from relay for life has a nice bun mouth-shaped cut in it :/ later on he tried to rip my friendship bracelet off of the same wrist but i was still awake and pulled away too fast for his quick little chompers to get a hold on it. im confused though, why bracelets?

LBJ – Wal-mart’s should be the small holes, BB&B usually carries the small ones, wonder why yours has the large ones. maybe time to order online?

And yes I swear he did pick out that wire just to shut my net off on purpose lol he’s a lot smarter than he lets on!

KateMonster – I had to laugh at the “lava” because Otto is exactly the same. We took him to my parents’ house and he stayed right in their living room on the area rug the whole time. We haven’t taken Hannah there – she’s not afraid of the floors so she could be all over, but in our house she still avoids going in the kitchen or past the living room, though she’ll run through the dining room with no problems.

There for a while Oreo was really great about not chewing anything she shouldn’t. But of course, once I started thinking that she was so well behaved, everything changed. Her room now has about 6 inches of door frame that has been chewed almost down to the plaster and a similar sized section of baseboard was demolished. She also somehow squeezed herself between a bookcase and the wall and dug up the carpet so it’s completely bare. It’s a good thing we’re putting in wood floors soon so the carpet has to get torn up anyway.

Oh and when I spray the baseboards with vinegar to deter the chewing, she LICKS them instead! Weirdo.

Pacey is pretty good about not chewing except my books those stay on high shelves.

Dini on the other hand in the short time that I have had him all the buttons on my remote are gone. I THOUGHT I had the cords all bunny proofed until my laptop wouldn’t charge. A pair of my shoes are now well ventilated. I have had to block off all wooden shelves since they are so irresistible lol. And my fingernails are apparently very tasty. I am sure there is more that I haven’t found.

I have started secretly following him to bun proof areas that didn’t need to be bunny proofed.

Our Wii now has a wireless receiver. We had a new dyson for about 15 minutes, and there are teeth marks in the cord (it’s now in a safe place, with some electrical tape on the chew marks). I don’t want to know what the underside of our 6 month old couches looks like. Other than that they are really good about not chewing!

Oh I forgot! One day internet mysteriously went out on my boyfriend (while he was looking for directions to a job interview)….Pumpkin chewed through the power cord.

Tait absolutely LOVES books, the more expensive the better I finally relented and gave him an old copy of the fellowship of the ring to destroy and he has left the others alone… For now. He also loves ONE pair of my jeans and chews holes in the one leg. They are old ones at least haha.

Cheddar has chewed multiple holes at the base of my couches. I put double sided tape on all of them now.

Meatball loves to chew wires, the coffee table, and he eats paint off the walls. I had my flip flops out recently (that I just bought the day before!) and he ate parts of the flip flip. Now I can’t wear them because they have bits bitten off.

Oh yeah, one time Poopy’s cage was too close to my window curtain and she pulled it into her cage and ate parts of it. She ruined my curtain.

I just find “crumbs” and then have a panic attack wondering where they came from hoping my girl didn’t just discover the fine wood of a piano or violin. Besides wood of unknown origin, other targets are cloth bags, plastic bags, rubber on lots of different items, cords, cord covers, string like items such as ribbons and straps, anything next to the bun-proofing barriers.

Items that are not targets: toys I give her

This thread is relevant to my interests!  I have a question: it it safe to put electrical tape on a cord that has have plastic chewed off and a couple of the fine wires chewed also? My lamp suffered some damage.

I haven’t really had to deal with the cord thing since Jersey was younger but Timbu is at the age that nothing is safe from his teeth.  Jersey and Rumball leave cords alone unless they are directly across their path.

RabbitPam, any reason in particular you made this thread? Something has been sampled maybe?  Regardless, it’s a good reminder to check for damage.

When Huckles was a baby, probably around 6-8 weeks old, I had a package of oatmeal cookies on a tv tray. She jumped onto the tv tray and tried to snatch one. I shooed her away but she kicked the package off the tray. Cookies went flying everywhere and she scrambled to get them all. I raced her and got them all myself… or so I thought. A week later, she had her head poked between the couches and was wiggling her little tail, so I reached down to check what she was chewing on and found a half eaten cookie under a stuffed bear! The little brat had hidden a cookie!!!

Now she just chews on every cord she can find, her favorite is the cord for headphones.

Mine aren’t really interested in people food – sometimes I’ll offer them whatever I’m eating, just to see, but they turn their noses up. The only time Hannah wanted human food was when I had a cadbury mini egg and offered it to her. She actually licked the shell! Haha. I did not expect that. Then I tried to give DH the candy with the bunny slobber on it, but he wasn’t going for it so I had to eat it.

Blah!!!!!!! E. you ate the bunny slobber on your egg. If you ever invite me over to dinner I’m busy that night.

Jersey, you can wrap electrician’s tape around a cord as long as the wires are not completely severed so the connection still works. You might need to twist the internal wires together, though, to complete their connection. I think you make a clean cut farther down the cord, twist them, then recover the whole area with the electrician’s tape. However, I would then add a tube of wireproofing protection (like you can get at Walmart or Radio Shack) so the bunny doesn’t try eating the electrician’s tape. IT isn’t bunny proofing. Just will protect you from shock or fire. (Be sure it’s labeled electrician’s tape, too. It usually feels plastic on the outside.)

My inspiration was replying to someone’s thread here yesterday. I mentioned in passing that thread that very old (2 years?) that listed crazy things bunnies had chewed. Thought I would start a new one. Can’t believe we’re on page 2 in one day!

Sammy hasn’t been caught eating anything bad lately. I think she just follows the phone cord to order in pizza when I’m out. Lazy girl.

My buns have absolutely no interest in people food. They aren’t usually in the immediate vicinity when we are eating though. Even if the baby gate is down, they still would prefer to chill in their room. This does sound like my cat though. He was such a sweet kitty, but he was always fascinated by whatever you were eating. Usually I would just show it to him so he could see it wasn’t something he wanted and then he would go away. One time I showed him a carrot and he started gnawing on it! Silly cat, he must have thought he was a rabbit. The funny thing is that my rabbits have no interest in carrots.

Hahaha. Hey, I let them lick my nose, so I figured it wasn’t too bad – just one little lick on the egg before I snatched it away from her. That’s the only time I’ve seen her eat people food though – otherwise she’s not interested.

My dogs used to beg for food constantly. If you gave them a carrot or something they’d always take it, but usually drop it on the ground and start begging again. Like, “Hey, i don’t want this crap. Where’s the good stuff?”

Hahaha, I can!!! Huckles chews on things like a 4 yr old goes after a wall with a crayon!

I wish she weren’t interested in people food but she goes nuts for it! She begs and begs and begs. When we go to McDonalds (and with it being 2 blocks away, sadly, that is often) she attacks the bag hoping for a left over french fry at the bottom. Once she grabbed the whole box and took off with it, we got it back before she ate any but they were covered in bunny fur and well… eew.

This is a great thread!!! So much fun since buns can be such brats.

Oh.My.Gosh. Hahahaha this had me laughing so hard.

Velvateen is in love with my Chai teas from Starbucks. He will climb all over me to lick the top of the lid. One time, I made the mistake of buying my own chai tea concentrate… the liquid stuff… and left it on the floor of my room. I looked over to see Fievel furiously biting at the box and Velvavteen directly behind him licking up whatever sprayed towards him. Hahaha I couldn’t be mad… I laughed for a solid 15 minutes while trying to clean them both up.

The only time Hannah wanted human food was when I had a cadbury mini egg and offered it to her. She actually licked the shell! Haha. I did not expect that. Then I tried to give DH the candy with the bunny slobber on it, but he wasn’t going for it so I had to eat it.

So cute yet so maddening! He has chewed (to name a few things): a blanket, two toys, a treat container, an oatmeal container, sleeping box(which now has no sides!), etc. etc. I’m afraid that if I let him have the house, I would be without a home… just kidding. But really, he is BAD, but I haven’t really tried to stop him (which I really should before he eats something dangerous) because he never ingests anything, I just find pieces of it where it once was…
