What type of water do you give your pets?

Hi everyone!

This is a weird question, but what water do you give your pets? My friend has a lot of rabbits that have died, and she thinks it’s because of their water, because everything else about them was healthy.

In my fridge, there is a button you press where you get ice cold filtered water, and that’s what i’ve been giving my bunnies. Do I need to give them filtered water, or is plain hose water okay. Outside the bunnies room, there is a hose “outlet” (without the hose). Can I give my bunnies that? It’s not filtered though.

I decided against making the water here soft water if that matters.

They’ve been drinking more water because it’s really hot here, especially for them.

Also how do you keep your bunnies cool? The air conditioning isn’t too great in their room, becasuse the electrician bolted this sound thing for the t.v right in front of the vent,  and the fan just blows air on them. I give them frozen water bottles, but they never or just don’t know that they’re supposed to lie against them. They use them as chew toys.

I give mine tap water; we’re on “city water” and not a well.

I don’t know what you mean by hose water. If you’re talking about a spigot and attaching a garden hose, keep in mind that the hose would need to be rated for potable water.

I use tap water. There are no problems with the tap water where I live, so it has never been a concern. Now if it were well water, then she might want to have it tested.

I use tap. Obviously tap water varies considerably from location to location depending on water source. We do have hard water.

I would not give water from a hose. Humans should also never drink water from a garden hose. Garden hoses often contain lead to make the plastic flexible, and the lead can leach into the water. Water that sits stagnant in a hose can become contaminated and grow bacteria and stuff.

An outside tap not connected to a hose should be the same as the house water.

Oh, and for keeping them cool, fill a plastic drink bottle 3/4 full of water and freeze it. Place it where they have access to it. Having two or more so you can rotate them is a good idea.

ETA:  Whoops I see you already do that.  You can also give them frozen fruits and veggies.

The water my bunnies get is from the tap, but the tap comes from the same place as the bottled water around here.
Ceramic tiles work well as a cool-off spot.

Thanks everyone! I changed there’ fleece to sheets to make it a little cooler, and they like sleeping on dishes and lying next to they’re water bowls.
I live in a city, and they are always saying the water here is very clean so I guess it’s safe for the buns.
If it’s really hot, I usually put them in the guest bathroom and they enjoy all the tile flooring and playing in the shower

My friends water was from a well, and she did not have the water tested, so I’ll make sure to tell her that.

I just use City water as well. I drink it and so do my cats and buns.
