Okay so I’m not a bun owner yet but when i do get a bun I am definitely gonna adopt. What are some questions to ask about the bunny before adopting it? Like what type of hay it eats, or other stuff? Also about the what type of hay thing, should I ask that before I bring a  bun home? The reason why i wanna ask that question is because i don’t want to order a bunch of hay and the bun doesn’t like it. so yea i just dunno what type of questions to ask about a bun before adopting it cause i never adopted an animal yet. Thanks for any replies!

I wouldn’t worry too much about the hay, some buns can be picky but others won’t care at all. I would certainly ask for any medical records they have for the bun you want to adopt. If the bun you want to adopt has frequent GI stasis episodes, that’s something you want to know about. Knowing what the bun’s previous home was like is also useful. A bun that came from a loving family that had to re-home because they moved will have a very different personality than one that got thrown outside and went feral. I would also ask what pellets they give the bun so you don’t have to change pellets as well as what greens they normally give.

To be honest, I would focus more on making sure you are ready to receive a bun at the moment. If you feel comfortable with it, you could post some photos of where the bun will be living in your room so the forum can point out areas where the bun might get into trouble.

Medical history, likes and dislikes, diet. As H&T mentioned, be sure that you are ready to commit to the buns. Bunnies from a shelter may have gone through a lot and sometimes it takes a long time and a whole lot of patience to care for them

I was in your position about… 3-4 years ago? I was younger back then, around 16-17 years old. It was that year that I asked my mother to adopt a bunny of which she agreed by summer. We later asked father who had no issue with it because he finds the bunnies and their maintenance costs cheap to afford. We never ever had adopted any pet before, except my mother used to have some birds decades ago.

So we did. I adopted a bunny from my close friend and I brought it to home. It was a black and I named her Aphrodite. She was 1.5 years old.

Mind you, I never did any proper research before so my experiences with the bunny were both good and bad. We had her for about 1.5 years to 2 years before she decided to leave and go to Rainbow.

With the experience I learnt from my first bunny, we adopted an another bunny after the latter left to rainbow and since today, we ran into no problems at all except that she is way different than Aphrodite , we named her as Snow White. She was 3 months old and is now… About 1.5 years old.

Now, as for questions.. Hay, pellets, costs, background info, etc. I never actually asked but well.. I trusted my close friend. I wish you best of luck!
