What Should I Do After My Rabbits Are Spayed (Need Advice – Please Help)

My neighbor is moving away and was planning to give 4 of her rabbits up for adoption, but I took them in instead. I’ve had experience with rabbits before, but I am not sure what to do in this case. One rabbit is a buck, the other three are does. The buck, Roger, and the doe, Tuna are both spayed/neuter. The 4 are already bonded. However, the other two does (Mochi and Eve) are no yet spayed.

I have an appointment to spay them both on Tuesday, but what am I supposed to do with their housing?

From what I’ve heard, it took my neighbor months just to bond Mochi to Eve and Tuna – they used to chase and bite her  a lot…so I am worried that their time away will unbond them. 

I cannot place Mochi and Eve near the others, because the others are living downstairs where it’s a little more loud, so I don’t think they will find much peace while healing. Instead, I am planning on putting the two in my room. What are the best ways to deal with the post-spay?

Are they all already bonded as a quartet? If that is the case, see what happens when you put them back but monitor them – they may be fine – if there are some squabbles then I would house them separately for a few days and then see what happens. I guess my advice is to see what exactly will happen placing them back in all together.

Yes, they are all bonded as a quartet. Would it be safe for me to put the two newly spayed with the other two? I’m scared they might move around too much …or the other rabbits harassing them because of their strange smell from coming home.

I think I would put them back together and see how the other 2 react – at least that is what I would do since they are already bonded. You’ll be home with them so if they do react to their smell then you can make the decision to separate them. Not all rabbits have problems with the “strange” smell after a vet appt.

Usually rabbits heal and feel better with their bonded friends.

I agree-I really see no reason to separate -see if your vet will let them all go together for the spay; that will help because they will be apart for a shoerter period of time, there are no ‘two rabbits go missing then come back acting funny and smelling funny’ to start any squabbles; and they are at the vet together so can comfort each other in the stressful environment, so if any squabbles would have happened, they likely won’t -often times stress is used to bond rabbits because instead of being picky and territorial they are stressed and comfort each other; It won’t be the end of the world if they can’t all go together, but I would if you can!
