Hi everyone we are new to the bunny world I have been looking into/thinking about getting bunnies for about 3 years now and finally did. We got 2 that are already bonded I am told that the one is half lionhead (from purebred dad) and half cottontail but when I look up pictures and info there’s not much and I’ve read cottontails and domestic bunnies don’t mix I will attach a picture of my baby bunny he’s the black one and the mom would love some opinions on what you all think. I guess I can only attach one photo so I attached the one of the mom

          Welcome!

I added in the pic for you. Your attached file uploaded okay but there is just an additional step you had missed. Next to the file name there is an “Insert Img” icon. Once you’ve clicked on that, the photo will appear in your post. (It appears wherever the cursor is positioned).

You are correct that Cottontails (American cottontails) cannot breed with Domestics. In other areas of the world, some of the wild rabbits can interbreed with domestic pet rabbits though. They are the same species.
Sometimes there is also confusion due to the common wild colouring (agouti). This colour/coat pattern is common in domestic breeds. So many rabbits will have the “wild” or cottontail colouring but they’re not wild.

The mumma is pretty! I couldn’t really tell you what breed she is other then part lionhead! It’s possible for lionhead not to have any mane, even full breed lionheads.
I can tell you she is what is called a “pointed” rabbit, due to the areas where she had colour. The ears, nose, tail, feet, though she doesn’t have the typical coloured feet. She looks very sweet.

How old is the baby rabbit? It’s possible if it’s young, they are living companionably together, but do be aware that can change once the baby reached puberty.

The baby bunny is with me now not the mommy we got 2 babies they are both 7 weeks. Thank you for the information on how to add my picture. I know what you mean on a lionhead having no mane the dad is purebred lionhead and she has just a little bit of a mane but not much. I was just surprised when being told the mom was cottontail and when I try to look up any information on the breed nothing comes up for pets and from what I’ve read they always have a white tail and my bunny does not he’s pure black. He’s very sweet and has a fun personality. I do have another question maybe you could answer I would like my bunnies to be indoor outdoor bunnies and can’t find much on that. I find info and pros and cons for one or the other but I really want both I love having my bunnies run around outside during the day but I also bring them in during the day to play as well. In the summer I would let them outside to play in the morning and maybe evening but throughout the day would have them inside because it is Very hot here. Anyway was just wondering if you had any advise for a new bunny owner ?

What region of the world do you live? There are different risks with allowing them outdoors, depending where you live. Here in Australia where I live, there are a lot of viral risks on the rise, so my rabbits no longer go outside. It makes me a bit sad especially since my 1st pair used to run back and forth from house to yard, when I was home.  But I don’t think it bothers my current rabbits that they don’t go outside these days. They’ve always lived indoors with me anyway, so are more used to that and feel most secure then.

Do you plan to have them live indoors but allow outside play? Or vice versa?

We live in the US I’m in Arizona my husband is very sensitive to animals and is allergic to their hay so right now I have their cage outside which they are really only in at night anyway and little bits during the day. I am trying to figure out whether to have place in my home for them or just let them sleep outside unless it gets too cold at night which isn’t often. we have a nice backyard with grass here in Arizona our back yard has brick pavers up as your fencing so it keeps them in and other animals out. They seem to love it outside they are so happy running around in our home they don’t run around much at all they stay in one area and haven’t even tried exploring. Which I don’t mind I have made a nice little area for them to play indoors and my kids and I will sit down where they are and they love coming up to us to say hello. I just want to make sure I am being thorough and doing what’s best for them and us
