What kind of vegetable do you give to your rabbits the most? I usually give mine cilantro and kale. They gobble up the cilantro, but take their time with kale. What is your bunny’s favorite vegetable?
Cauliflower leaves and radish leaves are liked by her since a long time. I usually make a salad of her having both of these and she gobbles a cup full of it within a few minutes ![]()
Mine all like green leaf lettuce and all three tummies can handle it. They love basil (and I love the smell of it!) but its hard to find really fresh basil here this time of year and I haven’t had any luck growing it inside.
Bramble loves kale and broccoli although I try not to give him too much broccoli since some people are of the opinion it causes gas (other experts say this is total rubbish, but I limit it to be on the safe side) I feel quite the sense of achievement to be honest when I give him these since I had a bit of a hard time getting him on to veggies at all in the first place. I just don’t think he recognised vegetables as being food at first but something happened when he had kale for the first time and he just took to it really well, it still remains one of his favourites.
Romaine and Kale are favorites. She also loves cilantro, parsley, and basil. And its fun to watch her eat snow peas b/c she’ll grab one from her bowl and run off with her.
I gave her some leaves from the broccoli stalk last night, she nibbled that up. And I’ll give her a few brussel sprout leaves when I’m making them.
I have to admit that I’m amazed our last bunny didn’t have gassy problems. We constantly fed her cauliflower, broccoli, and brussel sprouts…now I know better!
romaine lettuce and bell peppers are Bun Bun’s favorites ![]()
Radicchio is Cincinnati’s favorite – no other greens or veggies compare, though he’ll eat any of them. ![]()
Dandelions are Islington’s absolute favorite. He eats all the flower heads first, then separates the leaves and the stems into two separate piles to eat later, it’s the funniest thing to watch.
He also adores celery, mint, and endives, but nothing beats dandies.
So far I’ve been giving her tiny bits of vegetables as treats, since she’s too young to really be giving her a lot of vegetable. She likes carrots, although now that I know sugar isn’t good for buns I wont be giving her any till she’s older. She also really likes celery. Those are the only things we’ve really been trying with her so far.
My two boys go absolutely berserk for parsnip.
That’s the first thing they grab off the plate, and then they either run laps around the kitchen carrying them, or run off into a corner to hide so they can’t steal them from each other.
Bok choy and zucchini are their least favourite.
I am so glad I saw this post. I loved reading what other bunnies like. I go to an Asian grocery, so my bunnies eat a lot of Asian veggies. They love chinese celery, AA choy, and snow pea leaves. On the normal side, they love cilantro, and broccoli. But the first thing they always grab off the plate is the baby carrot.
Where do you guys find all these unique types of veggies?! All 7 of mine have the favorite vegetable: KALE! They go bonkers for kale.
Personally, I love being able to give them fresh herbs. I think they enjoy the differences when we give them something more fragrant like herbs but they ALWAYS go for the kale first so I’m not even sure they notice that I’m trying to spice up their salads!
Delilah hasn’t showed much of a preference over having a favorite veggie… she seems to love them all so far!
Right now we are stocked up on kale, roman lettuce, parsley, thyme, sage, broccoli and celery. she seems to love them all!
As far as fruit, she seems a bit more picky. She likes Apples in small amounts, carrots are ok, but she prefers her veggies, but she goes bonkers over bananas. Im hoping in the spring to start our garden and putting some extras in there as treats for her.
Kimber goes berserk for fresh mint and dandelion greens. Oh and mustard greens. She turned her nose up at fresh beet greens. Picky little stinker that she is! I change it up every week to make sure she gets a variety. But mint is for sure her favorite. (And apples…anytime I’m eating an apple she’s in my plate stealing slices! )
My bun loves spinach, kale, baby greens ect. so pretty much any leafy greens that are safe to eat she LOVES. Apple, grapes, banana and pineapple are some of her favorite fruits. She likes the occasional carrot too. Also I must be careful not to leave a cranberry juice drink on the floor.
Things she hates:
Anything cucumber
Craisins
The only fresh things I’ve given to DaBunnah so far are Apple and Parsley. The apple he nibbled on and seemed to savor, the parsley he lost his marbles over, has a mini binky in his hutch every time I give him some. The deer in my area got to the rest of my herbs and lettuce, I have an unfenced yard and I think some are sleeping in a leanto I have.
So far the only thing Pumpkin hasn’t liked is bell pepper…she also had her first raspberry the other day!
Did she like it LLH?
Moxie doesn’t like Bell Pepper either so far, although I’ve only tried giving her the green ones…
Pete is picky, but LOVES his dandelion and cilantro. Recently he has discovered radicchio and was hooked. He sunk his teeth into and his eyes bulged, as he sucked it up and then dug through his entire salad pulling out the rest of it. lol It’s a bit expensive for an all-the time inclusion.. but he apparently loves it. Carrot tops are also a favorite, though they appear to be well out of season at the moment.
Can you buy just carrot tops without the carrots?
Radicchio–is that red?
MM–yes she gobbled it right up! I was thinking of blackberry maybe? But don’t want to stain her fur! I tried to give Pumpkin red, yellow, and green peppers…a few nibble here and there but that’s it.
CARROTS!!! We buy Henry a standard shopping list of veggies each week, a variety of lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, parsley and kale. We then add extras like pumpkin if I’m cooking it. No matter where I put the carrot on his plate, Henry will always find and eat the carrot FIRST! Lol!
He hates zucchini, cucumber, capsicum and tomato – shame! They are favourites in our house.
Henry goes banana’s for banana! Crazy for craisin’s and loves a mulberry branch full of mulberries and leaves!
I’ll also add, if I want Henry on my chest in bed, even if he is in the other room, I only have to open a bag (even quietly) of macadamia nuts or popcorn, and there he is – on me! (don’t tell anyone, but potato chips tooooo – ssshhhhhh!).
Ohhhh! I should add Henry LOVES my dog’s dry food while sucking down a can of Coke! I think he’d give up carrot if I let him eat the dog’s food everyday??? Dam bunny!
Ahahahaha, that sounds familiar! My bun is obsessed with Ritz baked chips. I swear he can pick the sound of that specific bag opening out of any other sound. I try to never give them to him because they’re so bad for him, but he makes it impossible! Last time I had them he jumped on to my chest, climbed up to my face and literally, literally stole them out of my mouth. Then he turned around and tried to yank them from my hand. I had to finish the bag while standing up, with him trying to climb my legs. It got to the point that I had to simply stop buying them.
Fresh lemon basil from my garden, elly eats the crap out of it…panda just marks it haha
Kale and dandelion greens.
Wafel is too young for veggies, and Carrots is super picky. I’m so jealous of all of you that have bunnies that love their veggies! Carrots’s favorites are carrots (obviously), kale, and parsley. She hates peppers, zucchini, and pretty much any nonleafy other than carrots. She also snubs any stalks of the greens I give her. This week, she is getting dandelion, green chard, and kale, all of which she likes.
Radicchio is purple with white streaks. It looks like a mini red cabbage. Cincinnati can eat a third of a head at a time. ![]()
Mine love lettuce of any kind, kale, dandelion greens, parsley, and cilantro. Endive and escarole are also well liked. ![]()
Trix loves romaine but I wanna try him on some other stuff. He won’t touch peppers, I tried red and green he’s not interested. I’ve tried him on other greens but he only wants crunchy stuff. He liked the baby bok Choy but didn’t love it. Anyone know any good CRUNCHY greens I can try next???
