My 3 year old rabbit olaf started sneezing randomly months ago and I was a bit worried but he has pretty much stopped now. In his cage he doesn’t move around a lot and last night I checked on him and he didn’t eat any of his food so I started panicking, I moved his bowl closer and he started to eat. Not too long ago I noticed that he had little red spots on the bottoms of his feet and I thought it was sore hocks, but I don’t think that it is. I’m worried that he has pasteurella/snuffles. Last night I looked at him and started crying, I remembered that snuffles causes head tilt and I can bare to see my baby with head tilt. I ran down stairs and my mother agreed to taking him to the vet on Monday (my vet isn’t open on weekends).

Do you think that he has snuffles? Or what do you think is Wrong?

        Thanks

Sneezing could be a sign of snuffles, suffles is caused by bacteria called pasteurella multocida, but some other bacteria can also cause an upper respiratory infection. Have you seen any thickish, white or otherwise colored snot around his nose? That would be another sign of snuffles. Do you hear any wheezing at all when he is breathing harder than normal, for example when you clip his nails?

Snuffles can lead to head tilt, it’s when the bacteria invades the middle ear. So it’s really good that you’re taking him to the vet, if he has a respiratory infection, he can be put on antibiotics and that would greatly reduce the risk of head tilt. The vet will listen to his lungs and they will hear if there’s a breathing problem, antibiotics help against that too.

The little red spots are puzzling though. Sore hocks tend to start as calluses. That’s bared, glossy pink skin that’s hardening, most commonly under the heels. Were the spots on his fur or were they spots where he had no fur? Red pee can stain bunny feet, if your bunny is light in color.

He did have snot before but it’s pretty much gone. When he did have snot it wasn’t thick or colored but I couldn’t tell if it was white (he is a white rabbit). He also squeaks a little when he sniffs stuff, but I think he has always been like that. His feet look like they have sore hocks but it’s been there for a while and I don’t know what to do (other than taking him to the vet)

Yeah, the best thing to do is to visit the vet as soon as possible and get him checked out. It is possibly snuffles but it could also be allergies from things such as dust or certain types of wood shavings
