what is going on with my bunny’s bum!?

Hi friends!

Health advice again:

My girl Ellie (4 year old Netherland dwarf) had some runny poop last night (borderline diarrhea). We aren’t sure what caused it, but have removed all veggies, treats and pellets, and left her with hay and water over night. This morning, there was one runny poop and then all day long they have returned back to normal. She is still completely herself (running around, begging for treats, binkying, eating, drinking). However, this evening I noticed that her bum/vaginal area looks super swollen or infected. I don’t think I’ve ever looked super closely at her bum before but I definitely noticed because the area looked puffy, like it was sticking out and she wont let me near it. I called the vet and they said to try to soak the area with a warm wash cloth and keep it clean and to check if the swelling has gone down in the morning since it might be from the diarrhea. I just want to know if there’s any other advice on here or anything I can do in the meantime. I’ve attached a photo (gross, I know, sorry).

Ick!  I’m going through the exact same thing.  Afraid I gave my bun a little too much variety in foods and treats…. ): Give her a “butt bath” if you haven’t already.  Keeping the area clean is all you can do; that and the things that you already are doing.  My poor girl’s behind looks the same way.  I gave mine a butt bath way earlier today, as I thought her diarrhea was done, and here I guess it’s not ): I checked her rump again 5 minutes ago and found 2 squishy poos stuck to it….  I cleared those off, and just got a wet paper towel, put some of the rabbit-safe shampoo on it that I had already used on her earlier along with some water, and wiped her smelly butt off….  then dried it.  I’ll plan on giving her another butt bath when her diarrhea is gone….  She’s acting the same, still binkying and happy, still content.  But I’m also worried just as you are!

So we’re in the same boat!  I’m not sure what else we can do.

How is it looking now?
I can’t really tell much from the photos. It could be something like a rectal prolapse. The tissue can look a bit like a cauliflower floret. (sorry) Straining, even with loose poo may result in that.
Did the vets say to bring her in if the swelling remains?

My baby’s bum is back to normal.  Hopefully the original topic poster’s is too.

She’s doing much better! It is still a little inflamed but it isn’t red anymore and all her poop is completely normal. Im hoping it was just some swelling from the diarrhea.
