So I just found this in my bunnies’ home. I put down a blanket this afternoon. Just a few moments ago, I found this brown colored stain on the blanket. I haven’t used this blanket before in their home, so I’m not sure if urine just stains weirdly on it?

Anyhow, it smells like urine. It isn’t goopy like I would suspect urine sludge to be. I’m not sure what it is. Does anyone have any ideas?

If it’s a new blanket that you just put in, your bun may be marking it by peeing on it. Are they spayed/neutered?

I find that dried up urine stains tend to be brown (maybe the others can confirm this). Kurotta’s pee is usually the typical yellow-green, but when it dries it becomes brown. It could also be the cloth type/colour that changed the pee stain.

Did they pee in other spots? You could check those spots out and see if it’s also brown.

I think Kurotta is right. Bunny pee comes in a variety of colors, all normal. The stains can very well change color as the pee dries, because oxidation takes place. If it smells like urine, I’d say it’s urine. (Sometimes you can get brown stains from really liquid cecotropes, so that would be another possibility, but cecotropes don’t smell like urine at all).

Bunny pee can also be bright orange to bright red and it’s still normal.

I fixed your picture. Hmm… does orange (pee) + green (blanket) = brown?

Orange and green does mix into a murky brown colour if it’s paint, but I’m not sure if the same theory works in this case…

My Bombur enjoys marking his blankets after I clean them (how dare I clean his lovely self decorated blankets ). One of their blankets is a green camo blanket and when he marks on it and it dries before I can clean it up, it turns into a brownish color on the blanket. When he marks on white material, its normally very orange (which is normal and fine).

You can test your spot with peroxide but it looks normal to me
