I’m reading Elizabeth Kostova’s, “The Swan Thieves” – very good stuff – love her novel, “The Historian” – I can recommend that as well.
I’m reading The Age of Deception – Nuclear Diplomacy in Treacherous Times which is probably the most serious book I have ever read. I am also reading The Emperor of All Maladies which is a riveting book about the history of cancer and cancer treatment (I am not being sarcastic, it is actually a fantastic read).
That cancer and cancer treatment book sound very intriguing….my husband was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer last year so I definitely am going to read this….
Looked up the other book and it sounds like heavy duty reading ![]()
I just finished reading a teen novel, The Fault In Our Stars, which is about a girl with cancer. I enjoy teen books-I find them more interesting than most of the books out there for adults.
I love that book LEL! It was so good.
I know! I loved it!
Next I plan on reading the Divergent series. See if it actually is what it is cut out to be.
I love divergent, the second book I liked less, and the third book even less, which is a shame. Great premise though. The film is actually alright too! ![]()
I am currently reading Mr Murder by Dean Koontz. It is a good book that should only take me 3-5 days to read but the foster pups have me worn out so I have only been reading about 10 or 20 pages a night.
I could list some journal articles I was reading, but I imagine that would be boring. LOL I don’t think I’ve read anything for fun in years.
I read ‘true’ crime – anyone wanna know the titles?
I do AndHenry – I love true crime and mystery books.
Sorry LBJ10 that you haven’t been able to read anything you enjoy for awhile :~(
LEL have you read “The Age of Miracles” by Karen Thompson Walker? I recommend that for you if you like teen books – it’s so good too.
Being a teen myself, I’m into all teen books. Going to start The Fault In Our Stars, but currently reading a book called One Moment. About a girl called Maggie who’s boyfriend dies after a party. They’re jumping from the edge of a gorge and he ends up snapping his neck. It’s sounds kinda gruesome, but it’s about the struggle of losing someone special and all that stuff; it’s actually really good. If anyone does have any recs though, go ahead, I love reading literally any type of genre. I’m the kind of girl you’d find tucked in the corner of the library behind a stack of books I’d be planning to read.
I’m reading/listening to The Smartest Kids in the World, which compares education systems and cultures in a few of the countries that score the highest on those international education tests (South Korea, Poland, Finland) to the U.S. system, which is no where near the highest scorers. It is very interesting so far and makes me wish making improvements in the education system in the U.S. wasn’t so ridiculously political and decentralized. Seems like there are some very straightforward changes that could at least be tried.
I agree that there are changes we could make to the education system. Australia is not that fantastic either Dobby!

Ooh thanks for the rec. I will look into it!
Sarita – Haha! Well, that’s grad school for you. I’ve been getting a lot of stuff from the Journal of Environmental Psychology lately.
The true crime book I last read is called ‘a stolen life’ memoir about Jaycee Dugard. The next book I have ready to go is ‘Monster’ – the man who kept his daughter hostage for 20+ years in the basement and fathered her children. My problem with reading, especially at night is when it’s so good I can’t put it down. I have been known to only have 2 hours sleep on occasion – bugga!
And Henry that sounds so good. I like those kind of books. I added them to my Nook wish list. The girl Elizabeth from Monster is putting a book out called Verdict. That should be good too.
Dobby and Bunny Girl that sounds so interesting. The education system does need adjusting in U.S. terribly bad. Its so political here in U.S.. I so agree with you. I like eyeopening books like this. I may look for this one on my Nook.
Sarita I am with you I love those type of crime books. Love them. True crime is the best.
Dean Koontz is good too.
Age of deception sounds good too.
I have just read America’s War on Islam and Everything Else was good. And finished before that Supression of the Muslims U.S. Policy and the Muslim World. Very interesting. I like some political things. 911 revisited is a video I like that too. On youtube.
Bunny books. Some are ok not too many tho.
Oh I love werecat and were wolf books as well there are several series I have read on my Nook too. I even had a werecoyote book series from the library. Don’t remember the names tho.
Thanks bunnytowne! I had no idea Elizabeth was writing her own book – I will ‘definitely’ be looking out for Verdict. Cheers.
(would this be considered an older thread, so not to post in it?)
I’m into more YA books. I’m still a teen so… JUV books tend to be too young for me and i lose my interest quickly. I read the Divergent books. Loved the first one, on the second one, I was like… Okay, kinda turning sad…. On the third book, once you get to chapter like 49, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BOX OF TISSUES!!!!!!! same with me, loved the first one, loved the second one less, and loved the last one even less! The writer reminded me of Shakespear’s Romeo and Juliet. The author of Divergent liked to get you attached to characters, and then kill them on you!
That is not nice!
Also read the Inkheart series (Inkheart,Inkspell, Inkdeath) Those were Okay, not my favorite.
Never read The Hunger Games, though I saw most of the first movie.
<– let's just leave it at that face. I thought the whole concept was weird and disturbing a bit.
I love rabbits, so I decided to read Watership Down by Richard Adams. That was an Okay book too.
When I was younger (8-10ish) I loved to read the Warrior Cat series by Erin Hunter. Haven’t read those for quite some time…
I haven’t seen the Divergent movie yet, I kinda want to.
(Don’t you hate it when a movie comes out from like your favorite book, and the actors don’t look like you imagined the characters????
)
It’s fine to pull this up.
I do hate that about movies LOL. Luckily I love Sherlock Holmes and well, he’s been made into so many movies and for the most part they’ve done pretty good with the actors for him :~) Especially Benedict Cumberbatch.
I’ve read some Sherlock. I know they make a lot of shows about him. I haven’t really watched much of that. We have Netflix for our wii and regular tv and I’ve seen some shows about him on there, I really only watch animal planet and sometimes TLC. Have you ever seen Once Upon A Time? It’s about storybook characters that were pulled out of their story world by a curse and were sent to live in a town in Maine. It’s rated PG, but there’s some fighting that my little sis would be too scared to watch, or any little kid most likely for that matter. Many shows I like to watch I have to watch at night because my little sis get’s too scared too easily.
I find it’s kinda interesting. All this talk reminds me I need to go to the library soon!![]()
I just started “Sins of the Borgias” by Sarah Bower. It’s pretty “meh” so far. Hope it picks up.
Sins of the Borgias….sounds like it would be a long book because those Borgias committed a lot of sins :~)
