        Hello

I’m new to this site and a first time bunny owner.

I’ve had my two little troublemakers (don’t let their angelic looks fool you) for around 4 months now and have been trying to work out the breed of one of them since they arrived. The folks at the pet shop told us they were both Dwarf Lop’s (which Jon Snow – white one -clearly is), though they told us Tyrion was more Dwarf than Lop…but as he’s grown we’ve come to realise there’s nothing Dwarf Lop about him.

Does anyone have any ideas? He’s the one to the right in my profile pic and sprawled out in a flop in the attached pic.

        Thank you

Gorgeous buns!  To me, the middle-left picture makes him look just like a dutch rabbit. But then the coloring in the last picture throws me off. A tri-color Dutch perhaps? Maybe someone more breed-savvy could chime in.

Anyway, welcome to the site and feel free to click “Bunny Info” at the top of the page for lots of useful information for first-time bun owners!

Oh those ears! Massive! And adorable of course.

I can’t recognise a particular breed – perhaps a Dutch mixed with a lop? Lop mixes tend to have huge ears even if they don’t end up lopping. But the pointy ends in the first couple of photos don’t look very lop-ish. In the last photo they look like lop ears (but standing up of course) so maybe it’s because of the angle the other ones are taken.

            He’s very cute anyway!

Your buns are super cute! I love the pic with the shoelace.

Pet stores tend to use the label “Dwarf” so people will assume bun will stay little and small. Sometimes they really are dwarf, other times not. I don’t really see any particlular breed stand out in your buns, other than the Dutch markings. They are probably a mix of several breeds. But adorable.

Have you had a vet confirm they are both boys? Pet stores can often get this wrong (even people very experienced can have a hard time sexing young buns).

Thank you all for your replies – I’ve been trying to figure it out for a while now, your answers have confirmed what I thought so I’l settle on the fact that he’s probably mixed breed.

Yeah our dealings with the pet shop weren’t ideal – to be honest they seemed to be clueless when we asked questions. The buns are definitely both boys, I took them to a vet to double check this (didn’t want to chance baby buns when they were still babies themselves!) and they have since been neutered. Best decision I made, they had a few scuffles prior to being neutered but have since been the best of friends.

Hi Ailsa! I posted in your other thread (in the Lounge). I didn’t realize there are two threads. Anyway, you can look at my post. My conclusion was dwarf (mini) lop mix. I based this on ear shape. Lop mixes can have upright, helicopter or lopped ears. The coloring appears to be Vienna marked harlequin.

Thanks LBJ – typical newbie, no idea what I’m doing . I’ll pop over to the other thread
