I’m a little confused on what kind of rabbit Pip is. The vet told us he’s a lionhead. But to be honest, I don’t really think that she knows a whole lot about exotic animals. I have taken all of my rabbits there before, and the majority of my ferrets. She just didn’t really seem to know much, and mostly asked us what we thought? She told us Oliver was a female, but he turned out to be a male, like my step father said he was. Although she could be right, I just want to know what you guys think. When we first got him, his face was pushed in a lot like a dwarf, but now it’s not as pushed in, though it’s still pushed in more than Domino and Oliver. Here are some pictures of him.

I know he’s young and it may be hard to tell right now, but any guesses?

Here’s the picture of when we first got him.

Pip might have a little lionhead mix in him, I do see some long fur between his ears, but he is definitely not all lionhead. His ears are much too long for a lionhead and he doesn’t have the mane around his face, nor any long fur on other parts of his body. His baby photo looked more like a lionhead (in the face), but he looks very little like a lionhead to me now that he is older. I’m not sure what he is mixed with, but he certainly is cute!

His baby photo is so freaking cute!!! I agree with Tobyluv that he doesnt seem to have much lionhead in him, but it is there. He almost seems like he may have some dutch in him, too. He may be a mix of many things, but either way, hes a super cutie!

I agree. He has some lionhead in him. His baby picture gives it away. Often times, when they are a mix, they will look fuzzier as babies and then their manes fall out as they get older.

Thanks everyone. We’ll just have to wait until he’s a little older and see if he only has a little bit of a mane like he does now.

It’s possible to have un-maned lionheads also. I think there is something about them losing their “baby” fur around one year old and the adult mane (if any) grows in. Don’t quote me though! :p

There is a lot of variations in Lionheads. It’s only become a recognised breed in the US in the last several years.

Lionhead isn’t recognized as a breed in France as the results aren’t stable. They are just x angoras which, as a result, have kinda fluffy hair around their head. They tend to have a nice fluffly ‘mane’ as babies but most of them lose it at least partially when they grow up (and sometimes end up with a weird long strand of hair or two). So, in that sense, your rabbit could count as a lionhead. I’ve had a lionhead x dwarf lop mix and he just had a really silky thick fur (while some of his brother and sisters looked like ‘real lionheads’). His fur actually looked a lot like your rabbit’s does. So your rabbit could very well be a lionhead x uppy ear rabbit (probably not a dwarf, as your rabbit doesn’t show any sign of dwarfism and looks pretty big).

There’s definitely lionhead in him. Has he had his first big blowout? My Chewie’s long mane and whiskers and rump trails did not come in until after his first big moult.
