I like to mash fruit and feed them to my rabbits! How about you guys?
My rabbits will have a little bit of fruit – apple, banana, peach, strawberry, or blueberry, as a treat, but I don’t mash it up for them. They also get Oxbow Simple Rewards baked treats or American Pet Diner treats. Just be careful not to give too much fruit or too many prepared treats.
My Bombur absolutely loves banana. If Im eating a banana, hes going to be as close to my feet as possible without stepping on me, just watching me eat. If I give him a piece, he takes it and runs. I have to feed him first because he will steal the bits of banana from my other two bunnies
Otherwise, I havent tried too many actual treats yet. We are moving nearby a huge pet store that has a hay specific aisle with hay based treats and I am soooo excited to try them!
I give Panda and Fernando either Oxbow Simple Rewards (currently I have banana/apple, carrot/dill and cranberry on hand) or green herbs (they especially love sage).
Mine get dill as a bedtime treat and one or two pieces of dried chicory root as a mid morning treat. They also get their probiotic pellets as treats throughout the day.

I’ve tried dill as a treat, and also mint and cilantro. Panda eats them all eagerly, but Fernando often turns his nose up at them or just nibbles the stalks. He’s even picky about parsley. Sage is the first herb treat I’ve tried that both of them nom on happily. That being said, when they’re blended into their supper salad, they both eat ’em with great enthusiasm.
Oxbows heart shaped veggie treats. They’re big, less sugar, and gives Wick a satisfying crunch.

Mikey your Bombur is so well behaved compared to my bun! When I eat a banana Thor turns into a bunny-cyclone circling my feet at top speed. If banana is not dispensed immediately she progresses to honking and pulling at my pant legs
what a spoiled brat!
Aside from banana and other fruit treats, Thor LOVES oat hay seed pods and dried willow leaves.
All things herbal and leafy: my buns love willow leaves, chamomile flowers and tea, and floral and leafy mixes. They also enjoy little bits of apple and cranberry (but they only get that on weekends). I used to give the oxbow treats, but the doctor told me that my buns were getting a bit on the plump side, so I stopped giving them those. Actually, her words were: “they’re not fat, but they’re right on the line.” ![]()

That’s something I’ll have to ask the vet about when I go to take Panda and Fernando in for their 3,000-mile oil change, er, that is, wellness checkup. ![]()
It’s hard to tell whether they’re plumper than they should be because they’re Polish rabbits, and this breed tends to be rotund and roly-poly as a normal course. In fact, show standards for the breed specify that they should look like half of a fluffball when they’re in a sitting pose or a bunloaf.
I will just have to experiment more with various herbs that both of them will regularly accept as treats (as opposed to salad garnishes).
My bunnies love anything and get an varitety of treats. They love all the Oxbow cookie-type treats as well as the Oxbow Joint Support “cookies”. Sunseed Dried Papaya treats and small pieces of fruit: bananas, watermelon, peaches, pear or apple.
Olaf loves dried papaya and freeze-dried banana. I don’t eat fresh bananas often, but when I do, he will climb up on my chest of the back of the couch and get right in my face. Or he’s so eager he’ll actually “peel” the banana for me, grabbing at the skin and yanking it in a banana-crazed frenzy. I usually only give him a few little nibbles.
He also likes parsley, apple, and willow leaves.
Favorite treats… My buns love most fruits and veggies as treats Banana, apple and collard greens are their favorite but their favorite treat is oats they go CRAZY over them![]()
Ha! I love the idea of the 3,000 mile oil change! Hahaha! ![]()
Joea64, I love the idea of a 3,000 mile oil change!
(I tried quoting you, but obviously I don’t understand the “quoting” feature. ![]()
Tiny Italian grapes. White, seedless, so thin-skinned they’re translucent, and gloriuously tasty and juicy. Always chilled. ![]()
