I’ve gotten a few messages from friends here and wanted to thank you and let you know the Lady Pringles, Daisy, DammitCharlie and our new girl Lucy are ok. We live 8 blocks from the blast and I think the blast was mostly the windows and house damage. I don’t know much more because we were just given a few minutes and I chose to chunk the bunnies into the small cages and grab some of their supplies instead of looking around. We had to move 3 times that night but are now staying with my ex a few blocks out of the sealed off zone. My work friends took up a collection and brought me litter, hay, pellets and everything I need for the buns.

We can’t go back to check yet and we’ve lost so many precious souls and don’t know about so many others, it’s just horrible. Everyone has been so kind, I just wish we could get some information. We are one big family here and we know everyone.

THANK YOU Tanlover for your story a few days ago. I read it with horror and actually re arranged the garage so that I could get to the cages in a hurry and cleaned them out. Of course I was thinking more of bad weather evacuations, but it was a god send to be able to pack and get them safely into the car by the time the National Guard ordered us out. I had measured and knew which ones would fit ahead of time. Bless you.

love to all, Kathy from West, Texas

Thank you for posting this here Kathy – you and your family have been in my thoughts and prayers. So glad you are safe and I hope you can get into your house soon. West definitely sounds like a special town and so close knit. You need that in times like this.

So glad the buns are all okay too. So glad your work was so thoughtful and brought the buns some supplies.

          Hugs.

Very glad you and your buns are okay. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. My thoughts and prayers are with your town. Was very sad to hear about this tragedy.

A lesson for all of us, I guess, with summer fire and storm season ahead to be prepared in case you need to leave with your pets quickly.

Kathy, thank you so much for posting this today. Sarita alerted us that it was your town, and she said you’d gotten out with the bunnies, but we’ve been very concerned. It’s just tragic watching the news. I’m glad to know where you are and that you’re safe and getting help from folks who are there with you.

I was so sad to hear what had happened down there, but thankful to hear you guys are all alright… I cannot even fully express how sorry I am, and my thoughts are with you and your friends/family/acquaintances as the full impact comes to light.

I agree that you don’t want to think about evacuation… but it happens for any one of many reasons. I’m so thankful that you’ve been able to make things easier to evacuate, but I’m sorry you had to…

(((Hugs to you… kisses to the bunnies…)))

I’m going to email Tanlover about this. I’m not sure if she’s seen it…

I hadn’t seen this – so thank you so much Beka for sending me the PM!

I’m so happy you and the buns are okay, Kathy. And I’m soo SOOOO incredibly happy my story could help you and your bunnies out. It’s so terrifying and during my moment of terror, I was just in a state of utter confusion especially with the bunnies and how to get them out safely. It really makes me feel so great that my story was able to help you. It’s so important to keep a plan of action for moments like this when you have to move quickly and have no time to think. I hope everyone who reads your story also realizes how important it is.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. As are your buns. <3

Glad to hear you and the bunnies are okay. I’ve been trying to figure out why West, Texas sounded familiar the last few days, and now I realize that it was you. You and yours are in my prayers.

This is also a good reminder for me. I live in a beach town now, so we’re susceptible to hurricanes when that season rolls around, plus Nor’easters. Not to mention last year we had a disaster where a jet crashed into an apartment building…
