Hello all, some of you may remember me, I was a new bunny parent about a year and a half ago. We had two Rex bunnies, Shadow and Princess, both of who were stolen from our home, cages and all, along with our dog and quite a few other belongings. Heartbroken, I haven’t been on binkybunny since. However, just a few days ago we were at our local tractor supply and a lady was selling her “accident litter” of dwarf buns. I couldn’t resist and scooped one up. We’ve named her Dottie, she is very lovable, cuddly, and has very much proven her Houdini abilities. She gets along famously with our two cats who cuddle her and treat her like a kitten, our dog is terrified of her despite her attempts to make friends. As of right now we have her set up at the foot of my bed in a medium sized dog crate (which she hardly ever stays in between her escapes and cuddle play time. We have a shelf built in for her to hop on with towels and a sheet on the bottom. She’s still litter training (which is hard with her many escape attempts) but every time she does escape she comes straight to my daughter or myself for cuddles or to cuddle with one of her kitties. I have tried putting screen up around her cage (she slips between the bars of the crate and uses the screen to climb to the top and put) and then the roofing style chicken wire (thicker than regular chicken wire) which seems to keep her in her cage, we’ll know for sure when I get home. She’s wonderful, she’s not content unless being pet or cuddled (even while she’s eating she will stop to nudge us for loves). This is my first dwarf so I may need tips and pointers.

Hello, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. What a terrible way to lose beloved pets, I can’t even believe that people would steal pets in the first place, I’m so sorry.

On the plus side, Dottie is a real cutie. It seems like she’s settling in pretty well, just hope you manage to keep her contained, but maybe she’ll be a great free-roam bunny

Thanks!!! And yes, losing princess and shadow was extremely hard. My daughter and I were devastated. It took us forever to be able to adopt another bun.
Dottie is completely settled (she’s already taken over) I can’t believe how quickly her and my cats became friends. I’m hoping to keep her contained while unsupervised. My house isn’t exactly bun proof in the sense that its a fixer upper and there are little nooks and crannies that I’m semi positive might lead outside which would be disastrous. But like I said she mainly escapes to either cuddle with us or the kitties, or at least that’s how it seems. She was left alone(in her cage) for 6 hours. When we came home and saw she wasn’t in her cage we ripped the house apart looking for her (she’s so tiny!!) And found her bunny loafed by the stove and as soon as she saw me she hopped right to my feet and allowed me to pick her up and cuddle her.

Good news though, the chicken wire seems to be containing her. Came home to a contained and somewhat miffed Dottie begging for some cuddle time and greens.
