Sophie took Honey to the vets: http://www.newtonclarkepartnership.co.uk/ In Yeovil.

One of her eyes, occasionally, squints a bit, I personally don’t think there’s much to it, but it was happening at the vets and the vet said that it could be serious and the spay could increase risk. Sophie rang me, however I was asleep following a nightshift at work so she opted not to go for it, and instead has some eye droppers.

Does anyone think this is a reason not to get spayed? I’m looking at her now, there seems to be nothing wrong… Apart from binkying and headbutting the outside of her cage

Also. The vet then asked if we had another rabbit. Sophie said no, knowing full well how rabbits are social animals etc. And the vet said: “It’s better to have no rabbits than one rabbit”
We are not getting another rabbit. Is she implying we give her away or something.. She is always out and receives a lot of attention from us and runs around like a nutter and binkys constantly.. Just pissed me off a bit, when I heard that, as if she is trying to make a point!

Hmmm… A squinty eye doesn’t really sound like a reason to not go thru with the surgery. And the comment about having two rabbits really makes me question this vet. How confident/comfortable are you with this vet?

Rabbits are social animals, but having 2+ isn’t required. Many people have one happy bunny.

Well, it’s always a vet’s perogative to put off a surgery if they feel it isn’t a good time and if it’s her first time to see your rabbit then I think she probably did the right thing and I would say okay to that.

I wouldn’t worry too much about what she said about having one or two rabbits, that is not really a reflection on her ability to spay or to care for your rabbit medically – it’s just an opinion on how she feels about rabbits and their socialization – I think the rabbit medicine is more important than anything when it comes to your rabbit’s care – purely my opinion.
