I am sorry for the graphic nature of this post!!! And I promise I’m not a weirdo, this is just something I noticed because Dorothy used to have a problem with poopy butt, so I was actively checking that for a while… The past couple of weeks I notice when she hops away I can see, under her tail… that her backside exit (LOL) seems to be sticking out or protruding a bit. At first I thought this was some poop that didn’t fully make its way out, but when my boyfriend and I made an attempt to clean this spot, I noticed it was just what looked to be skin or maybe a very small amount of flesh colored tissue. She is perfectly happy and acting normal, eating fine, pooping and peeing fine, what could this be???? Should I take her to the vet, it just doesn’t seem right…

I have no idea what it could be, but it definitely does not seem right.

I was thinking possibly a hemorrhoid? About a week before this appeared, she had eaten a very small amount of hard plastic (I know), and she had less poops around this time, but now she has no digestive issues at all.

Was the piece of plastic small enough to fit inside a poop? If her poops have been normal, I feel like she would have passed it by now? Still, I think you’re right that a vet visit might be in order.

There’s no such thing as TMI posts around here lol! It does sound strange, but I’ve never looked that closely at my bunny’s bums so I can’t even compare. If in doubt, always call a vet. You might be able to take a photo and email it to them (put a warning in the subject tho lol!)

It was probably about the same size of one of her poops, maybe slightly larger. Also, her poops about a week ago were slightly enlarged and one was strung together by fur, which isn’t typical for her. Her poops are fine now.

It does sound like an abscess, so I would head to a vet to check it out

Might be like a small rectal prolapse? A full one will look have more visible tissue protruding. Like a little cauliflower floret but skin coloured.

What about the rest of her down there? No swelling?

No swelling anywhere else, jerseygirl. A small prolapse sounds about right, or something close to a hemorrhoid. Either way, it has not effected her frequency of poops or the shape or size of her poops. She also doesn’t appear to be in any discomfort, and her appetite has not decreased. I am taking her into a vet tech at the animal shelter I got her from today so they can take a closer look, and I also have her scheduled next week for a vet visit.
