Because we don’t have a shelter anywhere near me, I’ve been keeping contact with the local animal control, and let them know to give me a call if they get in any rabbits(they do not “do” rabbits – they are euthanized within 48 hours of being with them.) I got a call yesterday saying they had one in – so off I went to go see her!
She is a black and white female Dutch. Very young – they were told she was 6 months, but I am thinking 4 months or a bit less..she’s very tiny. Unless she was just stunted, which is possible, but she is in overall good condition and not underweight by much.
She was left in a box outside their building during the night, with a note explaining things. She is coming from a severely abusive home where many boys threw her by her ears, cornered her and hurt her, and chased her around(this makes my stomach turn to think people have done this to her). The mother said the bunny would die if not removed from their household, but she didn’t know where else to take her. I guess she did not know about the 48 hour limit on them, but alas – this little girl is safely now in her forever – and NEVER abusive – home!
Even with all she’s been through, she is extremely loving, gentle, curious, and willing to forgive. I am already in love. And she has already used her litterbox for 90% of her potty(all her urine, though – woohoo!) She has a ton of energy – was running “WEEE!” circles around her NIC condo last night, lol! Very entertaining, she was having a blast. In a month or so, I’ll take her up to the vet that did Dallas’ enucleation and have her spayed.

We’re hoppy to have her join the crew, lol. The boys will be fawning over her like no other, I’m sure.Here are some pictures!!!! I took them a little earlier, so please excuse the messy cage. She’d been bouncing around like a mad woman and I hadn’t cleaned it yet. It’s only her temporary home, she’s moving to her permanent station in about an hour. All bunny abodes are being rearranged today so they all have the best and most sufficient home for each of their needs
She looks double the size she really is in these photos, she is much tinier in person.
