Water drinking

I’ve noticed that Quincy only sips at water during the day, but around 3-4am he just starts tanking the water bottle and drinks at least half of it in one sitting. I know he does this because he lives in my bedroom and wakes me up with that annoying rattle of the little metal ball in the spout lol. Why does he drink so much at once and then hardly anything at other times? Do your buns do that too?

Maybe he doesn’t want to spend a lot of time during the day drinking (it takes a lot of effort for little pay out with bottles) but by early morning, he’s just so thirsty?

When Bam used his bottle, he’d do the exact same thing. I’d hear the rattle of the metal ball in the middle of the night and I often wondered how come he was so eextra thirsty at night. It could be because all greens are eaten at that time so there’s only hay to munch on during the night, and hay makes a bun thirsty.

Then one day Bam stopped drinking from his bottle and took to drinking from his back-up bowl instead. Now he has his bottle as a back up but he doesn’t use it.

I didn’t think of that! They always tip bowls over so I stopped leaving them out and just kept the bottles. But I don’t want them to go thirsty. I will give them bowls and still keep the bottles too until I find something they can’t tip over. Maybe I should check the dog section at the pet store because all the small animal bowls they have are just not heavy enough. They have pretty big litter boxes and when they are full of litter they still move them. Quincy taught Ophelia to grab the edge with teeth and shove/pull/lift it to move it around -.- little buggers

LOL naughty bunnies I think the bowls I have for P and B are dog bowls but they’re not the biggest. Sort of medium size but pretty heavy.

I use a big, heavy dog bowl for Panda and Fernando’s water. They’ve never yet been able to tip it over, but they do occasionally splash in it (and then shake the water off onto me).

Yes I’d suggest getting a BIG heavy ceramic dog bowl. I had terrible trouble with my temporary bun, Boo, tipping over bowls so I got one of those big dog bowls that looks like it would be fine for a great dane It holds a lot of water and Thor drinks out of it readily. I like it a lot because I never worry about her running out during the day!

As to your question, Thor does this too: She only seems to drink water in the late morning, then no more the whole rest of the day. I think it is because I feed a big salad at night, so the time she drinks is the farthest removed time from salad?

Also, those small-serving shallow crock pots are too heavy and short to tip.
