Water bowls, bottles, crocks

Hey All, 

As Summer is rolling up.. its getting hot hot HOT

My bun is 10 lbs and sometimes I notice she will be licking for water at her Lix-it bottle for a long time.. sometimes I worry that she is NOT getting enough at a time.. I’d love to switch to a bowl (plus its more natural… right??) 

I can’t use a dog bowl because she will knock it over and crock bowls are SO SMALL I want to give her enough water for a couple days… she can finish a Large Lix- it in 2 days. 

What do you all recommend that my bun won’t knock over and thats BIG enough? 

If she is sitting licking her bottle for a long time… she must not be getting enough at once,r right? arg! thanks!

Heavy, deep ceramic bowls work the best. You will want to change the water every day, not every few days.
I use smaller bowls, but for your big bunny, you will need something bigger. Maybe try looking for a “deep ceramic dog bowl” online.

My Henry uses a bottle too, but in summer I also give him a bowl. I use a big heavy glass bowl, and before I bought it I gave it the ‘tip over’ test. It doesn’t have to be a ‘pet’ bowl, it can be any bowl from the kitchen section of any store. Not sure if my description will make sense, but besides getting something heavy and big enough to hold a good amount of water, get one with a ‘flat’ bottom – Henry find’s that even harder to tip over cause it’s more balanced and he can’t get his nose under it to tip it. I change the water in Henry’s bottle (it is a large glass bottle) every 2nd day, and the bowl I changed daily. Actually, Henry moults ‘all the time’, so I have to change it a few times a day cause it ends up with a layer of fur floating on top – YUCK!

PS – Henry did have a large heavy ceramic dog bowl (it was perfect) till it broke in the dishwasher (I’ve gotta stop being so lazy!), and the one he used the summer that just passed (we are in winter here now), I have no idea what it was meant to be used for, but I found it in the kitchen section of a dollar shop (even though it cost me $4 – go figure! Lol!). Cheers Moccasin.

Look in the dog section of the pet store for a larger heavier bowl/crock – that’s what I did when I had large rabbits.

For bowls I usually change the water twice a day – it’s easy to do since it’s a bowl.

I actualy use a plastic dog bowl but the sides kind of bend down so there isnt a lip he can grab on to it was from the dollar store, he can pick it up or knowck it over he can only push it a little but i put it in the corner and some bedding is blocking it from being pushed too.

Hey,
I use a small size gravity waterer from Walmart (Petmate Replenedish)
Because of the jug on top it is WAY too heavy to be moved or tipped over and I never have to worry about them running out (I still clean it daily though, and I through ice cubes in the jug part to slowly melt and keep water cold)

Thanks everyone! this is perfect!

Moccasin gets her nose under everything and flips it! but a heavy enough ceramic or glass would work and maybe I can even clean a rock and put it inside for extra weight! she is so strong

I’m going to look into that gravity waterer!
