Water bottle question

I’m not sure this is the right place for this question but I was wondering if anyone knew of a GOOD water bottle that DOESN’T constantly leak?? Water is constantly dripping out of all 3 of the water bottles I have. (One came with the cage and the other 2 came from the feed store). I look online but none of the ones the big name pet supply stores have, have very good reviews so it makes me leery about getting one of those. Does anyone have any success with their rabbits not filthying up a water bowl or an automatic waterer? Thanks in advance

I actually do prefer water bowls or an auto waterer, which I just switched to and LOVE. The good thing about auto waterers too is that they are heavy when filled with water so that bun can’t tip it over easily. Plus all the other bonuses that come with auto waterers! It’s also more natural for rabbits to drink water this way. Not that bottles are terrible, but I do prefer bowls.

Mine wouldn’t drink from a bottle. I had ferrets in the past and could never find a water bottle that didn’t drip. I cant recommend a good water bottle but I use little ceramic crock type bowl that are on the heavier side that cant be tipped over. I got these at the local Tractor Supply store. I think most pet stores sell them as well. The only time they get them dirty is if I set them too close to the litter box. Sometimes pieces of hay have gotten into them.

Have you tried just ceramic bowls? Mine have always drank out of bowls and I really like that (I find water bottles need lots of cleaning which is difficult to do, they can leak continuously but also all at once!)

Thanks for the suggestions, after thinking it over I’m going to look into an automatic waterer…if they can behave with it I think that seems like it’d be easier not having to refill dishes so much. Sam & Cat are currently in a cage (with plenty of out of cage time) but I have an x pen ordered and I’m thinking about ditching the cage all together because it seems like just an x pen would be easier to clean, and then I can just set their waterer down in the pen…I wish I’d made more informed decisions when I first started buying stuff for the rabbits bc they’re getting very expensive lol

Ditto to everything you just said! I’ve been looking online at gravity water bowls myself, just trying to figure out how large to go, not so much for the amount of drinking water available but for the weight of the water and keeping “how does this work?” Moshi from turning it over! Please post what you end up getting!

Kieko has a condo and the M&Ms have three xpens attached together (pretty much takes up most of the room). The plan was to make them a condo for inside the xpens. Not only are the boxes of NIC cubes still sitting unopened, I’ve been considering ditching Kieko’s condo for an xpen setup for her too. The only thing holding me back is that she’s a jumper and a climber (used to find her hanging from the top of the cage sides when she was a baby so we made the condo).

(supposedly) anti microbial one that Petmate makes. My bunnies are both small and won’t get too much larger so I think it should be ok for them not to tip over. Well, my Rex, Sam would be the only one to attempt it lol, but I was worried about going up any higher and having a hard time messing with the waterer (rabbits are upstairs, running water downstairs). I thought about the NIC condos-they look really neat, but I know me and my rabbits would end up with some lop sided disaster that’d come crashing down on them. They like their cage…but it’s a pain taking the top on and off and fitting things through the door so I think for my situation an x pen would be best. I actually ordered 2 extra panels for the x pen bc I got to thinking they’d need more room if they didn’t have the cage…despite the fact they have free rein in the bedroom 90% of the time-now I’m starting to feel bad they’re only in the bedroom and occasionally supervised outdoor visits. I think I’m beginning to over think all of this…then again none of our other animals (besides the guinea pig) are confined to just one room…kinda got off rambling but I’ll post pics once I do have everything figured out!

If Keiko is a jumper and you still want her in an x pen maybe you could use the NIC cube panels to make a sheet to lay over her cage. Don’t know if your x pens are square but it might work too even if they’re not?

That Petmate waterer is the one I have! Except I have a blue one, and it’s .75 gallons… it’s only for Theodore anyway. xP

Our xpens are the Midwest ones and can be moved into any shape. I really just need to work on getting Kieko bonded with my bonded pair, or get a 4th bun and bond them all so they could all have the bunny room!

I had originally thought about the small waterer (half gallon) but going to the next size up sounds like the way to go.

Do you like the Petmate waterer? Have you had any issues with it? If not I think I’ll go ahead and order that one then. The x pen I have is the Iris plastic pet pen. I just got it today and I like it a lot except to get in the cage I’d have to crawl through the door, but it’s a bigger door than a cage door lol so I’m not complaining. I think I’ll probably end up trying to find a top for it though, bc I’m pretty sure my Rex could jump it if she becomes inclined to

I personally love it, and haven’t had any issues with it so far, but I’ve only had it for a week, so we’ll see! But so far it’s great.

I have a Kaytee brand water bottle and it only drips slightly.
I keep a rag where it drips though and just exchange the rag if it gets too water logged, but usually it doesn’t drip THAT bad.

I tried the rag under the bottle thing. Marlee chewed it. So I tried real chamois (no herbivore will eat chamois!). Marlee chewed it. Ended up hanging the water bottle over the litterbox, which is where we are now.

Still trying to get around to ordering the auto waterer to give it that a try.
