How often do bunnies normally drink water? Say I have a small ceramic bowl. How often should I be filling it up? Can rabbits be showing a sign of sickness through drinking habits as in being really thirsty or not drinking water at all?

Yes, excessive drinking and lack of drinking can be symptoms. Any behavior changes can be seen as symptoms.

I would dump and freshen a water dish at least once every two days, just because the water can get soiled easily and grow bacteria. Stagnant water in a place with fur, poop mouth, and hay and pollen is a petri dish!

Please see a vet if you see these symptoms aligned with others. Water consumption nose important for all animals, so lack of it or excess is an indication that something is askew.

How big is the ceramic bowl? How much does your bunny weigh? I ask because you mention the bowl is small.

Mine don’t drink any until a heatwave. They get all their fluids from their chicory main diet.
Trust me, the quantity of wee that comes out the other end proves they are not lacking in fluds lol

I change my bunny’s water bowl at least twice a day – it’s not always empty, but it’s often got fur and hay floating in it, and I don’t want them drinking gross water.

I’ve had my bunny for three months and he has never once been picked up by me. He hates it. For that reason I can’t check his weight. I do know that he is a normal weight through feeling his body. He’s a five month old Netherland Dwarf. I’m asking because he finishes his water by the next morning so I change it every day. I think it might be because when I let him out he doesn’t want to goin his cage for water because he worries I’ll lock him in and then he won’t be able to get out and play. He’s smart. That’s probably why he gets so thirsty and drinks a lot when he gets back in. But it’s not like gulping down water. Just takes a couple sips and then goes back to eating his hay and then more sips in between. I’m going to start watching out for that now that I know drinking amounts matter.

I’ve owned my first rabbit for only a month now – he’s an adult dwarf less than 3 pounds. I cannot believe how much water he drinks! I have a cat-sized ceramic bowl and a small metal bowl, I have to refill these at least daily if not twice. I don’t know if this is similar to other people’s experience but it seems like a lot of water for a such a small animal, definitely more than the cats I had growing up that weighed more than 3lbs.
