OH my.  My laptop won’t copy pics from cd.  Drat.  I worked at it for 5 hours.  I got as far as turning on the camera card and it downloaded that.

Unfortunately I forgot how I did it.  I keep trying to find that what cha call it agian and can’t do it.

I had a live chat with the comp people.  HE said he couldn’t help me.  I had to call this # and pay $ to get the answer.  As if.

So now I am back at it again trying to figure it out.

OH my I figured out the problem.  I got so mad I smacked the top of the lap top.  I opened the disc door and there was  a disc stuck in there along with the one I just put in there.

I forgot about that.   Smacking the lap top jarred it loose and it came out.

Now everything works just fine.  I am so relieved.  Could you see me taking it in for service and finding an extra disc in there.

Oh gee whiz! 0_o How on earth did you get two discs stuck in there at once? I hope the first one isn’t scratched.
I came to answer this because my daughter has a laptop with Vista on it. I dread getting a new comp myself because I don’t want Vista, I like my XP just fine.
Love the new siggy piccy of Cotton ‘at his desk, working’…^_^ Reminds me of this one:

Hope the little sweetie is doing better this evening.

BT, you’re not the only one who’s done that. I also remember moving and looking all over for a favorite CD, only to find them doubled up in my stereo. It’s easier to do than people realize. And techies see it all the time. Glad you got it fixed. Who said hitting a machine doesn’t fix it?

              MM,
I am pretty sure that some computers can have XP installed on request instead of Vista. Maybe it was Dell online that allowed you to order it that way, but if you’re shopping for a laptop, you can ask the store if you can have that, or, price out a computer without the software installed, then buy XP and install it. That’s probably much more expensive, though.

My new laptop (Acer-really excellent and much cheaper because it’s the leading seller in Asia and Europe but not for long in the US so it’s very competitive) came with Vista. What I like about it is that I have both XP and Vista in desktop and laptop, but if there’s new stuff out that runs with Vista, I have the option available. So much is being made compatible with Vista that it’s nice to have current software. Also, I found it very easy to change and can go back and forth without any particular confusion. Ultimately the differences are minor.

OH so I am not the only one to do that.    lol

Phew glad I got it working.  I stayed up til 12:30 installing photos from CD;s.  IT went fast It just took that long to fix the problem eat etc.

Cotton cleaned himself.  His biopsy won’t be in til tuesday. He is eating good. I know it hurts tho. Poor Boo.

Vista is ok.  A little different but I am finding my way around it.  I will eventually figure out how to put one of Cotton’s pics for my desktop view.

OH and my xp desktop got a virus.  Dang.  Will be a couple of months b4 I can get it fixed.  I noticed it right away when the notice came up.  Gee thanks a bit late the security should have stopped it b4 it came.

I think it came from photobucket. That was the only thing I had been on since I turned it on and a little later the notice came up. GRRR if it isn’t one thing its another.

I got Cottons bill and laptop bill.  Be glad when it is all over and I am free to fix xp

Uh-oh…viruses from Photobucket? 0_o I use that place all the time, I sure hope not!
What kind of antivirus do you have, BT? I use Norton/Symantec. It catches quite a bit of junk, I must say.

Thanks for the info, Pam. Yeah, I was the same way when basic Windows 3.1 changed over to 2K and then to XP. I kept whining about not wanting the updates…but I know it’s better to keep up with them. It just means learning something new…bleah! ^_^

I’m such a caveman. lolz…. And there’s nothing easy enough for me to do without a fight. xD

I use the security pack from brighthouse.  Guess it doens’t work too good.

It did pick up a virus and quarantine it last week.  Now another one and it went thru

Aggravating.  I was using laptop and had desktop on .  I saw a thing come up but I didn’t feel like getting up.  By the time I finished and got up to go see it done got in.  Wish I would have gotten up right away to see what it said.  Probably would not have gotten in if I had gotten up right away.

                    Drat

                      BT,
There’s a free anti-virus program from grisoft called AVG that I’ve been using for years and it works really well.
Let me get you the link. It’s easiest to install from PC World.

                      http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,15202/description.html

Just hit the Download Now button. Then install it. Then do a full computer scan. It may be able to pick up that virus and clean it out for you. Worth a try, since it’s free, updates daily, and is very good at automatically catching things so you don’t need to watch it run.
