› Forum › THE LOUNGE › Vibes for Podge, please
I just had word from Gina.Jenny, she asked me to post for her, she can’t bring herself to. Podge has had a stroke and she doesn’t know if he’ll recover. Please send your best healing-vibes to ((((((Podge))))))
(For those of you that don’t know Podge, there are beautiful pictures of him in the July chat thread).
Well I just burst into tears. So so so not fair. Little Podge. He is such another icon. For me anyway. My heart so goes out to you, Gina.Jenny. G.J you’ve had such a rough patch lately. I’m so sorry. I’m hoping and yearning for recovery. You’ve shared so many wonderful pictures and I’ve seen him so much, and being without a rabbit for now, it’s like he is partly my own. My heart aches. (((((((((((((((((((((((((Podge))))))))))))))))))))))))) Love you little buddy.
And yes, for those that don’t know Podge, I think bam meant to say the beautiful pictures of Podge are in the July picture thread. And there are a few nice ones in the August picture thread as well. He actually starts off the month of August with bunny cuteness in the first few pics.
I’m so sorry to hear it!!! Poor little Podge. (((((Feel the Love and Get Well Podge)))))
And ((((Hugs))) to GinaJenny.
Thanks for posting for me bam x
Podge is a fighter, he continued eating on his own yesterday, especially when tempted by the offer of an occasional raspberry every so often, one of his absolute favorites, and he tried to stay active, though his co-ordination was poor and was clearly confusing him. It was awful watching him aim at a blade of grass and miss, you could see his poor face, wondering where did that blade of grass go. He insisted on using the hammock, even though it took several attempts to get up or down. Gina was hyper protective, snarling at any of us that went near, even when you got past Gina, Podge clearly didn’t like being touched, whereas normally he loves ear rubs.
He went straight under the hammock when he went outside this morning, which he never does, but did come out for a raspberry, though he did need to lean on Gina for support on the way…
It maybe just a case of leaving them out for long enough for Gina to eat some grass, then bring them back in where he feels safer. Its coming up 24 hours now, its going to be a case now of seeing how the next few days go.
Oh GJ. I am so so sorry. Oh Podge, my main man !!!!!!
Gordo, you are right, there are some little furballs of others who worm their way into the hearts of everyone else.
Podge is such a furball! He is loved (and claimed as their own) by all !!!
He has such character and individuality that it just doesn’t bear thinking about that he could be in distress.
He is so lucky to have you GJ and so lucky to have Gina as a bonded and protective bunny.
(((((((Vibes to Podge and hugs to you GJ)))))))))
Oh Podge! I hope he makes a quick recovery, and I’m glad to hear Gina is looking after him.
Aww so precious. Hope he recovers well. (((Podge)))
Went to the market first thing this morning and got a big bag of local grown greens, as theres not much green stuff in the garden due to the ongoing heat. Picked out a nice big dark green leaf, as big as Podge himself, hoping it would be irrisistable, and made sure it was nice n wet to help with hydration.
Podge took it gladly enough, but over half an hour later, even with Gina’s help, the leaf is unfinished, though much smaller than it was Normally a leaf like that would be gone in minutes between them, I’m guessing Gina ate most of whats gone as she is clearly full. He’ll gladly take raspberries but I’m scared to give him an upset tum by giving too many. Yesterday he was on the go non-stop, today he is just staying under the hammock, whether exhaution has caught up with him? I’ve covered the run with a duvet cover to help him feel safer so he and Gina can stay out and so the back doors can stay open, else the house will be too hot overnight for buns and hoomins alike…
Whatever has happened to make Podge like this, you don’t want STASIS to set in…. are you 100% his physical state is due to a stroke, and not maybe an allergic reaction (Q8 suggestion) to a sting or something?
Can you force feed him or get him to jump on anything else, treats allowed…. rose petals, shreddies, willow leaves….?
Keep that gut going….
I know you know J, I’m just speaking out loud.
(((((Hugsssss))))
Praying for you guys ❤️
He’s finally finished the first leaf, taken a lopsided circuit of the run and is currently starting a second leaf, curled up next to Gina.
Its not possible to be 100% certain its a stroke without an MRI, which would require an anastethetic, which I really don’t want to put him through right now. He is moving in circles when he does move, its only affecting his head, which keeps dropping to the left, and the front left paw, ie the back legs seem unaffected and the right paw is unaffected, and it came on quite suddenly.
He ate pellets last night, but with his head down on the left, so I was a bit anxious about choking, but offsetting that with being anxious about stasis from not eating enough. Given he is eating on and off by himself though, I dont want to stress him by force feeding, just tempting him little and often and see how he goes.
Since it sounds like it’s hot, and since I know heat makes things worse post CVAs, how does he react to a frozen water bottle? Is he drawn to it, or mostly meh about its being there?
I’ve been fretting since yesterday, trying to think of anything that might help, but couldn’t come up with anything brill… sorry GJ…
Chewie and I will keep sending love and get-well vibes (((((((Podge)))))))
After chatting to bam, as two heads are better than one, I just offered Podge one of the high calorie barley rings I keep in for emergencies. As bam says they are too big to choke on. He scoffed it down very happily, so I’ll give him a few more over the day. Its a fine balance, as they might fill him up so he’ll eat less of other, fiberous stuff, so not great for preventing stasis, but good for giving energy his brain maybe needs. He ate it like he was starving, so I’m guessing a few will do more good than harm and at least he is eatting them.
None of our buns have ever accepted a frozen bottle, but he is close to the house, the run is under an old duvet cover, so he is completely under cover to help him feel safer and ensure he stays in the shade all the time, normally I keep the runs 50% in the shade 50% open to the sky so buns can chose, but not taking any chances today x
Glad to hear Podge is eating at least!
He ate a bit of ruby romaine, the main problem seems to be he eats but is soon exhausted by eating. its just going to be little and often and including keep offering small helpings of green stuff that hydrates.
I’ve bought the buns in, as its getting towards the hottest part of the day here, he completely panicked at being bought in which is totally unlike him, hoping he’ll calm down and sleep in the cool dimness, with the blinds and curtains shut to keep the sun out.
I agree, it sounds like the best thing for him right now is cool and shadows. I think that’s why Panda and Fernando have taken so much lately to snoozing in the litterbox in the late afternoons (which are the hottest time of day in these parts); it’s at the back of the lower level of their condo cage, under the floor between levels and against the wall, and also, because cold air is more dense and goes down, it’s a lot cooler close to the ground. In short, it’s a very comfy place for them!.
Podge is being rushed to the vet now, Gina.Jenny asked me to post. She suspects he’s had another stroke about an hour ago.
((((((PODGE)))))
{{{((Podge))}}}
We love you, darling boy!
(((((((((({{{{{{{{{{((((((((((Podge))))))))))}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
Podge is home but heavily sedated. Vet says there’s not a lot we can do except keep him comfy and see if he recovers, she agreed he is better at home than kept in, he’ll feel safer in familiar surroundings, have Gina to cuddle into, and have familar food to eat. He’s back at the vet on Friday so they can see him before the weekend.
Thanks for consistent updates. In my thoughts…..
Podge has perked up slightly and is eating a bit of the greens from the market…
Get better, gorgeous boy!!!
Have you tried offering him pellet mush (just mix with water and let puff up first). Then you wouldnt have to worry about choking. Or Critical Care mixed with water on a plate. Bindi always devoured the Apple Banana CC.
Come on (((((Podge))))) All my thoughts, prayers, and vibes to your whole clan!
Just offered barley rings, he ate most of one, then refused any more, he only ate a few mouthfuls of the leaf earlier, its still there, unfinished. Its not that he isn’t eating, it’s that he’s only eating small amounts, not really enough, though better than none. I don’t know if the injection will have made things worse, pain meds can supress bunny appetites?
Pain meds and antibiotics (at least baytri) can suppress appetite, but he can’t not have painmeds and antibiotics. I’m glad to hear he’s eating even if it’s not a lot. Balance issues can cause nausea and in people and dogs you see rather violent vomiting (think seasickness), but since buns can’t vomit, inappetence can be the only sign of nausea.
((((((Podge))))))
It’s baytril he is on but so far I hadn’t given any, as I was waiting to start alongside the metacam and i was leaving that til bedtime, given the vet said she’d given him a substantial dose of both pain killer and anti inflammatory in the injection earlier. The baytril is only as a ‘just in case’ as there is no sign of infection such as temperature or inflammation.
Podge was quite floppy when I picked him up just now to give him his first lot of meds, but he did try and bite and struggle when the syringes came too close to his mouth. He took one raspberry after but refused a second, which is really not good, as so far they have been the one thing he hasn’t been turning down. It’s been a roller coaster of a day!
GJ – I’m so sorry that your little guy is going through all this, you’ve both been in my thoughts all day.
He couldn’t be in a better home for it though, if he could be, he’d be so thankful he was with you.
(((podge)))
((((((. Podge. )))))). Oh Podge…..
Will he go for a nibble of celery… ???? you could try that upside-down-celery-put-meds-down-the-middle trick…..
Have you tried cerenia for nausea? I would be surprised if he wasn’t nauseous and didn’t want to eat because of that. The long sustaining pain med was probably buprenorphine right? That can really slow down the gi as it is a opioid but it really helps with pain. At least he is eating on his own some. I know my girl had a double horrible ear infection and wouldn’t eat for 3 weeks so I had to force feed even with pain meds and we got her on the right antibiotic and she’s been eating on her own. Maybe there is some other pain he has that an X-ray or ct could show?
He looks exactly like my Patches, I hope he gets better❤️
Oh Podge, sweetie Boy! Please pull through! We all love You….
((((((((((({{{{{{{{{{{((((((((((PODGE))))))))))}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
My heart is breaking…. come on our little furry boy❤️❤️❤️
Here is a slight out of it looking Podge this morning, with Gina keeping a watchful eye out…
He took his first syringe of meds without fighting but fought the second, hence the sticky looking snoozle x
The head til is a bit better today, though he is still moving in circles.
He did nibble some grass when he first went out, not for long, but right now, every mouthful counts…
(((( Podge))))
BB let me pop on here after all, this morning. It’s so good to hear that he’s still being feisty between periods of rest. And I saw your reply to the frozen bottle, so please ignore repeat question in my email
Sending heaps of love again (((((((darling Podge)))))))
Gina is continuing to provide much needed comfort…
Precious bunnies! I just want to climb in the picture there and give them loving pets and encouragement and support with soft words and touch. Beautiful souls.
Podge isn’t eating much but has eaten some nectarine and 14 raspberries over the afternoon and evening. He’s still very spaced out, but I don’t know how much that is due to the meds
So frustrating to not be able to communicate. To not know… They should have been given telepathic communication abilities along with their innocence, fragility, and quietness.
{{{{{{{{{{Podge}}}}}}}}}}
Good Gina – the presence of another bun must be SO important in this kind of situation…
How about fibafirst sticks? I don’t know if you have any…
((( Podge )))
Continue healing our little boy… we are all in your corner rooting for You!!!
(((((((((({{{{{{{{{{PODGE}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
Finally managed to get on BB and wanted to send more vibes from me and Chewie. (((((((Podge))))))) And *hugs* for you. xx
Checking on the little dude. (((((((((({{{{{{{{{{Podgers}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
(((((Keeping the Love Coming for Podge))))))
Podge seems a bit brighter this evening, he fought properly against his evening meds and seems generally a bit more aware of his surroundings. He’s eaten some baby carrot with the top on, 2 and a half barley rings, a few pellets, some dried grass and some hay. I’m assuming the ani-inflamatories are starting to help. He’s back at the vets tomorrow, will update again after x
So glad to hear. Come on Podge!
Keep on keepin on, PODGE!!! We are all behind you!!!
(((((((((({{{{{{{{{{{(((((((((((PODGE))))))))))}}}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))))
Podge fought well over his meds this morning, then showed his opinion of me by peeing on me. He little realised I was so glad to see such a nice big puddle (thankfully most of it missed me!) that I really didn’t mind plus the bunnitude showed he was on the up.
There were maybe 20-30 little peppercorn poops in his n Gina’s run plus some normal ones, so I’m assuming the peppercporns are Podge’s and a decentish number of peppercorns at least food is still moving through the gut.
Just took this, you can see he’s quite alert and the head tilt is loads better x
(((((( Podge ))))))
He’s got a touch of the Lady Diana head down, shy eye looking up, photo look… (((( hugs ))))
Late to this, but so glad that he is doing better! Come on Podge, you can do it!!!
(((((((((Podge))))))))))
He does look rather demure in that last photo
Wow, G.J. So much better. I feared the worst when I first got the word. My mind always goes to the extreme. Love you Podge! Keep healing like a champ.
(((((((((({{{{{{{{{{Podge}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
Yay!!! Keep getting better!!
Vet was amazed at the improvement
So Happy to see our dapper gent looking so much improved!!! Yay! Keep it coming, you’re such a champion!
I check daily to see how he is doing, his progress and recovery is so wonderful to see!
Goodness gracious, Podge is a handsome boy! Happy to hear he’s doing better!
So pleased to see the positive turnaround, GJ!
Kisses for Podge.
Podge is much the same as yesterday, the vet says she doubts there’ll be much more improvement, she’s amazed he’s doing as well as he is.
It is going to be take each day as it comes, keep tempting his appetite and just keep monitoring him for any sign that he needs to go straight back to the vet. Otherwise, he’ll go back a week on Monday for a check up
Podge has just had a parcel arrive, he’s sampling the contents…
He’s looking so good!!
Given the vets didn’t expect him to make Friday when they saw him Tuesday, he is doing really well.
He’s eaten some celery, 1 and a bit FibaFirst sticks, a couple of bites of banana, 2 raspberries and 4-5 small grapes so far today. He’s much more aware of who I am – as in he is coming to meet me and even trying to go up on his back legs to see if I have something tasty (he fell over both times but hey its still progress?) whereas he had been panicking ‘ who are you, you unfamilar person?’
Awwwwwww…… My sweetpea is looking so much better! Keeeeeeep iiiiiit uuuuup (((((((Podge)))))))
And hugs to Gina and Momma and brothers for such good care
He sounds like his head is becoming clearer and his balance might always be affected but so glad he is making it through this. I hope he keep progressing.
((((Podge))))
I’m sorry to be seeing this so late. Love hearing Podge is eating a bit more and looking better. All the healthy vibes! And thanks to Gina for her sweet cuddles and bunny comfort.
(((((((Podge))))))) Continued Force heading your way! xx
Oh no, poor little Podge! He looks good though, sounds like he’s improving fast! He’s a fighter!
Healing vibes for Podge!
More vibes for the little man! (((((((((({{{{{{{{{{Podge}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
Podge is conyinuing much the same, up and down throughout the day.
He brightened up outside, and enjoyed some chicory and Pak Choi, neither of which he’s had before, but crashed out exhausted when he came in. Gina is being very watchful and is doing a great job keeping Podge clean…
Poor guy. ((((({{{{{Podgers}}}}})))))
*Body rubs and scritches* to Gina for being such a good partner.
Yayyyyyy Podge. Love youuuuuuuuuuuuu.
What a super cute couple. So sweet how she takes such good care of him. ?
Here’s a bunny breakfast fit for a king and queen
Podge accepted ear rubs this morning, and settled down, tooth purring, but we only got about half a minute before a very defensive Gina chased him away from me!
Its good she is so protective, but its possible to have too much of a good thing
He is MY Podge says Gina, stay AWAY!
I’m through! And glad to see ther royal highnesses enjoying full tums and good looks.
It’s adorable how Gina seems to be mimicking Podge’s body language in that last picture. )
(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((podge)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I’m so happy to hear he’s doing well x
It’s great he’s feeling better!
Continued love and vibes from us. (((((((Podge)))))))
Yes…super intense loving healing vibes (((((((((({{{{{{{{{{Podge}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
Just lost Clover to a stroke. Dammit, too much of this. Hang in there, Podge. All the vibes I have you got.
Podge is hanging in amazingly, all these loving vibes have really helped, though I am just so sad Bam and Clover didn’t make it
Podge is back using the hay box, after a few days of using the floor, is eating and pooping nicely, and doing well getting around. He is making some progress at cleaning himself, though balance is still an issue there. Gina has been a big help in comfort and cleaning.
He sounds like he is recovering nicely, so glad he is!
Too many buns lately have left us for the bridge .
If he could get his balance back that would just be superb. Love you (((((((((({{{{{{{{{{Podge}}}}}}}}}})))))))))). Keep it up.
More ((((hugs)))) and {{{{rubs}}}} to Gina for being so helpful.
Bam and Clover were stupendous buns, so Podge putting up a good fight lifts my spirits.
Still sending lots of owls with love and vibes howlers. (((((((Podge)))))))
Yay for you, Podge! And Gina, what a great partner you are!
It warms my heart that he’s doing so much better. We need you, Podge! So glad Gina is there to help out and defend her husbun ?
Podge managed a very brief ‘polite request’ for a treat this morning.
Pic is blurred as he couldn’t hold still, but a huge improvement all the same
Sweet boy… snoot rubs and ear tweaks and kisses on his floofy cheeks from me.
(((((((((({{{{{{{{{{Podge}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
Glad there is still improvement. And glad to know you consider it “huge”. It still hate to see the poor guy unbalanced and head tilted. I hope in his innocence it’s not too frustrating and he’s not so miserable as I think we would be.
Awwwww….he’s way too cute.
aww sweet bunny boy. I’m new here and just read through all of this, so happy of all the support that’s here for you. So sorry that this happened to your and your beautiful bun, but I’m so glad to hear about all of his big improvements. What a trooper. Sending all the good, positive, and healing vibes from me and the bun over here. Hope he continues to improve. (((((podge))))) <3
Yay Poooodg-ilicious !!!!!!!!!
There seems to have been a big improvement in Podge’s neck tilt in the past 24 hours?
Wow he looks so much better!
Keep it up Podge!!!
YESSSS! Now that’s what I’m talking about!!!!!! Excellent! Love the Podger Dodger. ((((((((((({{{{{{{{{{Podge}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
Awwww…..Please give him a big nose kiss from me.
Oh wow, GJ! He certainly has improved.
Well done, supermum!
He is eating like there is no tomorrow, massive piles of veg, up to a dozen Fibafirst a day, double his usual pellets, plus grass and hay, but not gaining weight, I’m guessing he needs all these calories to heal?
I’ll ask Gina to give hima nose kiss LPT x she might get jealous if I do!
He looks so good!!
I swear I already responded in here. Nevermind, I’ll repeat my sentiments. Go, Podge, go!
Yay Podge!
Post veg nap time…
head-tilt is still noticable when Podge is tired, but at least its not permanent 24/7 anymore
((((({{{{{Darling little Podge}}}}}))))) I don’t really have a basis to tell how Podge moves and acts before and after but based on your narrative and the pictures I’d say his recovery has been outstanding. I hope he continues to progress to 100% normalcy. But I do think his recovery is remarkable all the same.
Stealing hearts and taking names. Yep. That’s my Podge.
Bunny ears can get floppier when a bun is tired. Makes sense that a handsome wittle head would too, a bit. I’m just so glad to see him well and almost like his old self. xx
So glad Podge is eating better. He is looking so much better in the picture. Keep eating wee fella you are a little sweetheart.
We’re forecast heavy rain, so its an indoor day and floor time. The head tilt is only really noticeable most of the time now in that it is always to the left and never to the right and not just a trick of the camera or just it happens to be caught at that angle, but still so much better than it was. He often helicopters his left ear too now. So far, he hasn’t managed his beloved stairs, never mind tried to jump on the settee, and he is very heavy on his feet still, but apart from that, you wouldn’t really know he’d ever been as ill as he has. He always has a slightly dazed look in his eyes too.
Gina actually acepted a brief ear rub from me just now!
As long as he keeps going forward in his recovery and has his personality back, that’s the most a bun parent can ask for. He’s looking handsome though!!
He is still subdued, personality-wise, but hopefully that’ll improve too?
(((((((((({{{{{{{{{{Podgy Wodgy}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
I suspect he’s conserving his energy and strength to adapt and transition through all the changes he has experienced physically in such a brief period of time. I agree with BH, though: as long as he moves toward better and better health, we can all celebrate for and with him (and you guys)
I’d say Q8 is right, it must be hard work to recover so quickly. He is doing great, you must be so proud and glad x
Gosh, he is so adorable. So glad for you both.
Podge Baby! Keep on Keepin on… You have been amazing us all! Vibes(((((((((({{{{{{{PODGE}}}}}}}}))))))
@Bladesmith… I’m so so sorry. ? I have been away from the Internet for over a week… almost two… and I’m so sad to see that you lost Clover
@Bam… I’m so sorry as well, I think I read right before I went “off grid” that you lost bam. This is just so sad….
Love and Prayers to our Bunnies and our Bunny Families… Binky Free little Ones!
Quite bright-eyed and hopeful for some dandelions this morning
thankfully there were a few or he wouldn’t have been impressed
Ya Podge go go go !!
Dandelion leaves are in explosion here, after the heavy rain after the heatwave….. i just have to resist picking them all now when they’re tiddlers, wait for them to grow into biiiig ones.
Look at that wittle mouf! Precious booplesnoot.
The weather here has been too strange for many dandelions. But Chewie and I are yawning through a rainy morning at the moment. lol
Ask Podge to nom a juicy stem for his cousin on this side of the pond, please. xx
Thanks Muj. Go Podge go!
“that’s wHAT I WAs thinking” when I saw that picture. His cute wittle mouf! Keep healing buddy. (((((((((({{{{{{{{{{Podge}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
‘Da Podge’ is going from strength to strength He really is a little fighter!
<3
Squeee! I love this bunny boy! xoxoxo
((((((((((LOVE FOR PODGE))))))))))))
Podge just hopped on and off the settee! He really does start to look like he will make a full recovery!!
And a second hop up
He even managed a tiny binky when he got down
Podge, you are amazing!!! So happy news!
I am so glad to see this
Awesome news! ((((((((((Podge))))))))))
Wooooo hooo! Yay Podge!
In this crappy month, YAY for Podge !!!!!
Heart of a lion. Go Podge go.
Glad to read that Podge bounced right back to health ^_^
Wonderful news. Podge is looking so much better.
So happy he has bounced back to health ❤️
What a little trooper!
Such a fighter !!
Podge has taken a slight set back, I’m hoping its just due to him starting an autumnal moult.
He is still eating double amounts, I’ve just found that you can buy dried flowers and herbs on Amazon in horse size bags, so today we took delivery of 1 kg of dried marigold, hoping they’ll going down well and give him a tasty nutrient boost.
Between Mini’s lump under his eye, and all five moulting, they can all benefit while enjoying the marigold garnish over dinner
Come on Podge. Hang in there. (((((((((({{{{{{{{{{Podge}}}}}}}}}}))))))))))
What a gloriously yummy mess! A lot of buns’ tums are affected by the dreaded big moults (the end of summer and winter ones), so it could very well explain the smaller poops. A hearty appetite is… heartening, though.
The marigold sounds like such a treat! Does the fluffle approve of pineapple? Because the skin of even a mini one could help with any furry poops, without risking a sugar high. xxxxxxx to all of you
This little guy is AMAZING!!! You Go Podgy Boy!!!!
????????????GO PODGE GO????????????
Podge finally managed his beloved stairs today, he only went up 4 stairs, but he did that twice. A few binkies around the room too. He did lose his balance twice too, the second time he rolled right over on to his side, but got straight up more with a sense of lost dignity than anything worse. So continuing progess, but some way to go to full recovery. His appetite is still huge, so I’m guessing there is a lot of healing still going on in his bunny brain that needs the energy?
but got straight up more with a sense of lost dignity than anything worse
LOL – so like the FRIENDS blooper where Joey comes running into Central Perk and falls flat on his face !!
Go! my little Podgey boy !! xx
Pas a pas, on va loin. (Step by step, one goes far.)
(((((((Podge))))))) xoxoxo
Go podge go x
Happy to hear binkies!!!!
Can’t keep Podge down!
