I recently took my 7 year old rabbit to the vet because there was blood in her urine. I was expecting a large bill because she had to stay overnight to get a urine sample and the vet wanted an x-ray to look for kidney stones or any enlargement or growths in her uterus because she was never spayed. But when I got her bill back for payment, it was $780!!! There were usual prices like $125 for x-ray and more for urine path. But what’s concerning me is the $450 charge for the 6 days worth of Baytril I received. I took her last year to get a cyst removed and biopsied along with the same dosage and size bottle of baytril and that only came to be $450 all together. I’m wondering what you guys normally pay when you get a prescription for it and if I should call or change my vet.

I know Baytril isn’t cheap, but $450 for one bottle (what size is it?) Is absurd. Is it the same vet you got the cyst removed at? Do you still have the receipt? If so take both receipts back in and show them the price difference. I’d be wanting some money back.

When I took Bun Jovi recently for a urinalysis and X-ray, I think it was around 680? So the total doesn’t seem that crazy to me, but that price for Baytril is really high!

Also that was in S CA and there is a markup just for existing there 🙄

Baytril prescriptions for rabbits have only ever costed me 15-30 euro. So that 450 is definitely coming from somewhere else, and seems extremely unlikely it’s from even mostly or even part baytril. You can ask for a receipt breakdown of everything included in the price, in case you’re worried that you were overcharged. If it says 450 for baytril, then you were absolutely overcharged.

Just for reference, I got a little over week long prescription of baytril for a French Lop last week. It cost me 20 something euro. And he’s a big bun, so he got a lot – he’s on 2mls a day. It’s really cheap IME, kinda surprised to see it be called expensive haha.

I almost wonder if there was a decimal error on the Baytril (like they meant to charge 45)? I would give them a call to check…

I just called them and they actually charged me for 15 BOTTLES instead of 15ml. So the price should have been around $30. I’ll be sure to really look at my bills from now on

Oof, that’s a bit of a difference.. Glad you decided to check! I know errors can happen in the workplace, but this is a very expensive error.

Oh wow, I’m glad you were able to get it resolved. Quite the price difference!

Wow, that’s a bad error. Seems like somebody should have noticed that. I hope you got an apology at least.
