  Basil visited the vet on Monday for his calicivirus vaccination. He was a bit skittish after the car ride and there being a couple of big dogs in the waiting room so the vet took him out the back so the nurse could hold him for his vaccination. I just now noticed a scab on the back of his neck and wondered if it could be from the needle? I don’t even know where they put it since he was out the back for it but seems like a likely place. If it is from the vaccination do you think it’s okay or should I contact the vet again? It’s only about a cm long but he’s only 1.29kg, it’s s raised scab but no sign of bleeding in his fur or anything, maybe he just moved a little?

  It’s not uncommon for them to have a reaction at the injection site to certain vaccines. Just keep in clean. You could put some plain Neosporin on it to keep it from getting infected. Watch it and if it doesn’t get better after a few days then call the vet.

  I agree, scabs at or near the injection site for a calici vaccine are a very common side-effect and will go away with time.

  Great, thank you both! I thought I was probably being paranoid but it doesn’t hurt to ask. He doesn’t seem bothered by it at all
