Hello! Hope everyone is doing well!

I have a question about vacations and bunnies. I’m considering a trip out of the country but I was worried about leaving my Elmer.  If I were to go it would be for 2 weeks and my mom would stay at my place to watch everyone while im gone.

How do I prepare my rabbit for me to be gone for that long?  Will he even notice? I just don’t want him to be stressed out. He has a huge pen with tons of toys and my mom can keep him on his schedule, the only difference is he wouldn’t get as many snuggles and I wouldn’t be there.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

I think your bun will be fine with your mother! Since he’ll be in hus own home, he wont feel insecure like he would in a totally new place. He’ll have his own stuff and food and your mum will likely be nice to him!

You can write a list with stuff he can eat and shouldnt eat, amount of daily pellets (if he gets pellets), how often to change the litterbox, what to look out for (mainly refusal to take a treat), phone numbers to your rabbit vet plus an ER vet in case of emergency (not that there’s likely to be an emergency, its just so you and your mum feel as safe as possible).

Your bun might growl at you when you return. My bun just did that to me when she stayed with my mum and I’d been gone for less than 48 h 😂 It took 2 raisins for her to “forgive” me.

I never had issues having my parents come take care of the buns. They would immediately realize it was them coming to feed them, etc. and would quickly adjust to the slightly different schedule. Then we would come home and they would be like “oh hey, are you going to feed us or what?”.

I agree that he will be fine as long as your mom knows his routines and what health things to monitor. 🙂

Yeah, it sounds like you have the perfect setup!  🙂  You can use this form if you want to share all the details of their care: https://binkybunny.com/bunnyinfo/bunny-sitter-guide-2/

I think your bunny be fine, but if you’re very concerned, one option if you feel like doing *the most* is to get a plush/stuffed animal and keep it in your bed for a little bit so it gets your smell, and then leave it with your bunny when you leave.  Not at all saying that’s necessary, though!  I did that once when I left for almost a month.  But you are doing a great job already!
