I have a just over one year old male Holland Lop.

I noticed a while ago that my bun’s bottom was wet and matted due to urine. I chalked it up to maybe him sitting directly on the pan after kicking his litter around. We cleaned him up and moved on.

Well, it’s happening again. His fur is matted and he’s smelling terribly of urine

No changes to his diet. He’s behaving otherwise like himself. I have an appointment tomorrow with the vet but wondering if anyone has any experience with this.

We’re fortunate that he’s never been to the vet besides when he was neutered. He does NOT like being picked up so this should be an experience…LOL

Sorry no previous experience with a younger bun. Had it with my senior bun when his lags gave up on him though. Hope the vet given you an answer very soon

It could be a UTI. Or maybe not absorbant litter. You need to clean his rear, you can give him a butt bath. Urine can cause urine scald or urine burns. If his skin seems irritated you can use bag balm or diaper rash cream or just some beeswax cream on it.

If its not a UTI it could also be over hydration. One of my rabbits started to drink a ton of water for a few days because its been in the high 80s/low 90s for the past few months here. All of my rabbits started to drink more water due to the heat, even though we have the AC blasting. One of ours was drinking more than the other two because he is/was also going through another shed. He started to pee about once or twice a day while he slept. We called the vet to ask what she thought it was, and she said he was likely overly hydrated from drinking too much water. We cut their water to a set 3 refills per day and he stopped peeing himself

That’s interesting as he has been drinking a ton. I just keep refilling his bowl. Like you, we have our central air on; the house is definitely comfortable.

Update: Vet believes it’s a UTI. She clipped down his area and there was pretty significant scalding
We were prescribed pain meds for 5 days, antibiotics for two weeks, and diaper cream 2x a day. She said to cut back on calcium heavy food, in our case carrots perhaps, and increase greens.

That’s not good, but UTI’s are pretty common and the antibiotics should clear it up nicely

If she wants calcium rich foods decreased, just take care with which greens you choose as some are very high in calcium (such as kale and parsley).

What is an UTI?  Actually I, as a American English speaker, don’t know what an UTI is.  We have people on the forum that speak different English dialects, I’d guess that they don’t know what an UTI is also.

FYI: About English dialects.  The Apple iPhone Siri speaker recognizes 7 English dialects:  American, British, Canadian, Indian, Australian, New Zealand, Singapore. If you have an iPhone, you have to tell Siri what English dialect you speak! Just astounding..I bought 2 iPhone 6s’s. When my wife initiated her phone, she indicated she wanted to speak Thai. Amazing, Siri spoke Thai to her and also created text scripts in the Thai character set when she dictated messages!
