Hi, I’m a relatively new rabbit owner and first time poster. I’m Sylvia and my bunny is Tomie.
A little over a month and a half ago I got her from a friend movie out of town, she’s currently somewhere around 5 months old. Within the first couple of weeks I ended up taking her to see a vet that’s experienced with rabbits as she was having a consistently wet bum/tail and seemed somewhat incontinent. She did a full blood screening, and a urinalysis while we were there, and couldn’t find anything only saying that the urine was very dilute, and that this was a strange problem for a young bunny. So she prescribed antibiotics for 2 weeks, and ordered another urinalysis in a week.
A week later still no signs of infection, ruled out diabetes, and no signs of kidney issues. However the problem seemed to improve somewhat for a while only to go back to how it was to begin with, all while on the antibiotics.
The vet doesn’t seem to know what’s wrong and only suggested a psychological problem making her drink more water then she needs, but not to limit water intake regardless.
She’s a free roaming bunny that drinks out of a bowl, and she probably drinks 2-3 cups of water a day. She eats two or three large handfuls of Timothy hay every day, along with 4-5 leafs of romain lettuce, with celery, apple, or carrot as treats spread throughout the day.
She has some spots she pees that are behavioural (in front of a door we just went through and closed usually), but the concerning thing to me is the dribbles I see her leaving around, sometimes as much as a quarter sized puddle sometimes as little as if you used an eyedropper. This combined with the wet bum and confused vet has me very worried.
So, if anyone has had any similar experiences, or maybe thinks I might just be overreacting I’d live to hear from some experienced bunny owners what they think!
Thanks from Tomie and I!
