        Hi all!

I’ve seen mentioned a couple of times the idea of turning a rabbit on its back and putting it in a “trance”.  What does this mean?  Do rabbits like this?  Do you literally flip the rabbit onto its back?  I can’t imagine Lizzy tolerating that…

        Just curious!

Well you don’t exactly flip the rabbit like a coin, you do it gently and slowly, put them upright facing outwards from you bracing their back against your chest while supporting under the front arms and the butt and guide their head into the crook of your arm, belly facing up. Hold them securly otherwise a rabbit will jerk suddenly and can during this entire motion. Hold them securly, talk to them and then unhide thier head from the crook of your arm enough to stroke their forehead. This places them in a “trance” or really sedates them and relaxes them. As you do it, you will see their mouth open slightly, exposing their teeth and their head drops back. Most rabbits don’t mind it too much, Bonsai is O.K. with it but Daffodil doesn’t like it too much as she is kind of high strung. I also have larger, mellower rabbits and have not had much success with a hyper-personality rabbit.

For sure, I’d never be able to do nails or gland without the trance…BUT it’s sort of an art you work on, like scarlet outlined. Your bunny reminds me of my Kokanee who NEVER tranced, she was too stroppy…but you could put her in a trance position with help and do the nails/glands. Are you comfortable holding your bunny-because that’s very important and a first step
