So with my slow slow internet getting this videos uploaded took most of the day so I’m THRILLED to finally be posting this

Ruperts update will be tomorrow hopefully, we see a dentist specialist tomorrow at five.

So I’m posting, since I didn’t get them uploaded previously, before and after pictures of Kahlua’s head tilt and recovery.

Please keep in mind these before pictures, I think, were a couple of days after her tilt if not a week-I was pretty crazy stressed out and upset so I’m not sure the exact date that I took them but I know this was not her at her worst, it was a little bit after the super acute phase. So bad as they are, she was worse.

You can really see her nystagmus here

Ok and now the after; These don’t even show her most recent improvement, but they are the most recent I have; I think they are about 1-2 weeks old. I’d say now she is about 99.9% back to normal and these videos show about 95%…she still looks a bit down in these videos, and has improved since.

She’s running even faster than this now, and leaping over things!

Though we’re not rebonded (I had to seperate during her illness because Rupert was humping and biting at her) we’re making slow progress

Oh and I forgot to say, she still had an ulcer on her eye in those after videos. It took nearly three weeks to heal and my vet had to debride it but she was shocked at our recheck Monday (last week) when the ulcer was totally healed. So in those videos likely her vision was impacted as it was a large ulcer. She has some scarring but I can definitely tell that she’s seeing better out of that eye now then in these after videos.

            She looks wonderful now!! yay!

Was there anything you did special to help her get untilted? Poor Smudge is still all crooked, even with us trying to massage her neck muscles to loosen them up on th one side

Thanks Monkey-I honestly cannot believe how well she’s doing, especially with how titled she got and for how long.
We did cloramphenical and fenbendizole, four weeks and stopped though there was not much improvement. We did meclizine for the whole duration but I’ve pulled her off. We did try to make a neck brace but it was a complete failure. I think the neck massages help with pain and cleaning her helped with her dignity.
She lost a LOT of weight though, she was 1.2 at onset, and got down to 0.91 at her lowest vet weigh in, and that was probably 6 days after she started eating on her own so she was likely even smaller-and that was with force feeding and enticing with veggies and fancy hay. Shes eating like a monster now so I expect we’re on our way back up. 1.04 a week ago.

hmm we stopped the meclizine early.. wonder if that helped Kahlua more.

Suppose I can try it again with smudge for a bit, as she still gets off balance when she gets excited.

It is SO good to see this Before and After. To see how distressing it can look yet see her munching on her veggies. Then see her a month or two down the track doing so well. Things look pretty good between her and Rupert too! Good luck at his appt btw.

Pleased. Rupert’s exam went great. He has some misalignment on the side with his runny eye. I think the vet wasrreally impressed with how soon we caught it. He said he usually sees rabbits with terrible teeth so he thinks it will be one procedure to set him right initially. He was amazingly knowledgeable and had a great restraint technique so got a really good look at uncooperative Rupert. I’m scared for the anesthetic just because but I think It’s good need. Procedure is October 1
