Underweight bunny with possible dental problems

Gidget is a fussy eater at the best of times. She won’t eat hay at all. She’s had a tooth pulled and abscess cleaned out (2 yrs ago) and molar spurs and too-long roots this year. She’s been on antibiotics two or three times and now her cecum is messed up, with a lot of mucus. She will share my a.m. oatmeal & raisins and will eat canned pumpkin but hasn’t touched pellets in several days, and stopped eating broccoli (the only veg she will eat of late). I’m feeding her Critical Care with varying degrees of success (sometimes she just pretends to eat it). At my wit’s end. Taking her back to the vet tomorrow for more radiographs, but I’d love ideas of things to feed her other than CC. She won’t even eat a slice of banana! I’m worried that she is giving up.

Oh, yes–and she also has urine scald, because arthritis in her spine apparently keeps her from getting into the proper position to pee. She’s being treated for that, as well.

She gets Metacam 2x/day for the arthritis.

Discouraged.

Update! I borrowed a rabbit from the local shelter, so I could try to harvest cecals from him to feed Gidget and get her gut fauna back in shape. Gidget took to having a roomie and seemed to change overnight, eating more, and more variety. Her cecals aren’t quite bak to normal but they’re better. After about a week she’s eating close to normal amounts. She was lonely? She’d forgotten how to be a rabbit? Now all I have to do is get her back in the habit of using her litter box!

Sorry that this post was missed. It’s so great that you were able to borrow a rabbit to help Gidget improve in her attitude and health. It seems like things must be going along well. Will you return the rabbit to the shelter? Or will you consider adopting to help keep her in good spirits about eating etc?
